Exclamation Help A.S.A.P!!!!!!

Today I was leaving for a day trip, so I went to fill my bike up because she was empty. I left the gas station and as I left I drove down to krome ave to start my drive, I was riding at about 45-55mph and all of a sudden when i went to twist the throttle, there was no response. Then I realized the bike went dead. I pulled to the side of the road and checked the petcock, it was turned on...I checked cables spark plugs, everything was fine. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone? could it have been the battery? My bike only has about 1,400 miles on it. Should I take it into the shop? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The battery shouldn't stop a running Rebel.
Cagie has a good question, does it crank?

So it does run?

if so, there are possibilities. Start with the easiest first.
Was it warmed up? If the engine is cold, you will need to run it on choke for a bit.

Possible clogged air filter. Check the air box for debris, clean or replace the air filter if needed.

Possible fuel problem, Clogged petcock strainer, clogged fuel fillter (if equipped, clogged carb or stuck float, clogged tank vent (cap of classic, tube on second gen.

Lost voltage to the coil. Start checking for a loose connection (plug looks plugged together, but not really. Make sure their all securely snapped together..

Cool

Being this happend after you fill the gas tank. My first thought would be to check the gas tank for water. Turn fuel petcock off. Remove gas line at the carburator. Secure an open container to drain the gas into. With gas line in the container, turn petcock to reserve position. Let about a pint drain into the container. Then start moving the Rebel side to side gently, so the gas will slosh side to side in the gas tank. Drain about another pint out and check for water or foreign material.

Combustion requires fuel, air, and spark. Lack of fuel could be due to a restriction in the fuel line, blockage in a fuel filter, or similar. a hung float, or fouled jet are likely things that can go wrong in the carb. You said you had just filled up, so a clogged vent is not likely. Air could be restricted by a fouled filter, or liquid backed up due to a full puke tube. Spark can be missing because of a bad connection somewhere in the wiring, a bad switch, a bad component, or a short. If it's a bad connection, it can take some doing to hunt down because they can be intermittent. Bad electrical components usually quit working altogether at some point.
