Great saddlebag option
I recently purchased the the Xelement Waterproof Classic Saddlebags from Leatherup, item #X700-Saddlebag.
The bags are of excellent construction and fit my Rebel 450 perfectly. I tightened the yoke up two holes' worth of length, then removed both the pillion seat (two small bolts at the tail, slide back and out) and the main seat (two large bolts under the holding strap, slide back and out).
After test fitting, I unzipped the removable saddlebags themselves (great feature) and punched two passthrough holes to secure the yoke to the bike using the main seat bolts. Main back on, bolt down, pillion back on, screw down, zip bags back on, and voila.
I did not purchase metal mounts, as the bags are reinforced and rigid, sit atop the shocks beautifully with a good three or four inches of clearance down to the pipes, and the ties that come with the bags secured it perfectly. (I tied the two ends together, looped both around the rear turn signal stays, and tied them to one another atop the taillight. Clean, simple, secure.
I've seen the Willie and Max Compact Slants talked up quite a bit, so thought I'd give my first-hand plug for these puppies. The price is right and the result excellent.
Cheers!

Thanks for the review. Sounds like you got yourself a heck of a deal based on what I saw on the website. it'd be nice to see some pictures of your mounting system and to see how they look on the Rebel.
Oh, and let us know how they hold up after a while...

Yes, Pictures would be nice.
These seem like pretty good bags and I've been looking for some new ones.
Mine are missing one of the buckles on one side and rain gets in them pretty easily.

I like the Xelement Brand products. I got some really great fire flame boots from that brand. My sister thought they were Harley lol. They are more comfortable then the Harley ones I gave away to my daughter. The most comefortable ones I own, and well made. I got a jacket from them too and love it great prices. If you buy once from them they give you a 10% discount number to use any time you order from them after your first buy.

See, THEY understand business (and return business). Not those brand specific people we may or may not mentioned from time to time :P

Sounds like a wonderful deal that you got. I'm looking to get saddlebags for my 250 so I might have to check them out. I just have to watch that shipping to Ontario isn't outrageous

Rebelgirl are you going to the Michigan Rally? I think you said you were thinking about it? We would love it!

I don't think that I will be making it to the rally this year. I'm not comfortable riding that far yet, have no way to transport my bike down to get there and well...I don't have a passport....they won't let me cross without one
