Finally Got My Bike!

After a couple months of stalking craigslist and ebay i found the perfect rebel for me. An '85 in perfect running condition with only cosmetic issues (seat rip, faded paint, some surface rust/corrosion). I did want to go for something '96 on originally, but couldn't pass up the deal at $900. Thanks for all the help so far, i'm sure i'll have questions soon enough. Now to get to cleaning...

some pics:

1st gens are always a deal if they are mechanically sound. I scored my 86' Limited for only 800.

I wonder what caused the mufflers to blue like that tho???

Congratulations! Great deal you got. It's what I paid (IIRC) for my '86 same color as yours.

I'm guessing the baffles have rusted or been punched. Still a nice looking bike, especially for the age and price.

I would call that a good score! There was a Rebel for sale here where I live for $650, and it was all banged up. Too much TLC for me.

yeah it is definitely not perfect, but to me that is half the fun.

i have no idea why the pipes are discolored like that, but i plan to cut them off and throw on some shorty pipes anyways so it didn't really bother me. Same for the seat, my best bud does great leather work (and used to have a rebel) so i'll get a nice solo seat made, and work on it from there.

by the way if anyone was looking to have some custom leather done at a nice price you can see some stuff on his old site, new one to come soon. http://www.ImperialWolf.com

When I had my 250 (daughter has it now). Some one had cut the pipes off. I replaced them with the standard pipes and it ran much better then. Does anyone know if there is a reason the short pipes would make it not run as well? I am just wondering just in case for Burlymugg he may want information before putting short pipes on this? I am just relating my experince. And wonder why are short pipes good or bad for the bikes running?
