Cycle Cover

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good fitting cover for the 250 Rebel? I have to leave the bike outside at work and want to protect it from the sun and prying eyes.
I can find all sorts and newenough or JCWhitney but none of them are small enough.

What do you folks use?

TIA,
Eric

I bought a 'large scooter' cover from the honda dealer. Yeah it was probably overpriced, but I think the features are worth the extra cost. It has a felt/fleecy inside to not scratch the paint and a heat resistant material on the bottom where the exhaust rests. It has elastic that is strong enough that the cover did not blow off in higher winds. I think it was for the Silverwing scooter so it fit over the highbars and trunk nicely without any sagging. IIRC, I think I paid about $65. The cheap covers at kamapart were $40...

65 sounds reasonable for something that lasts. I've wasted a lot more money on useless "bargains" than I have overpaying for good stuff.

I got a cheepy from JCWhittney. Paid $15. The price was so low becouse they couldn't sell them and just wanted to get rid of them. When I got it and put it on my bike it fit like a glove. The down side is I got what I paid for. It has none of the good things cagie mentioned. And a year after I got it I had to reseal it with with the stuff that makes tents waterproof. Of course I also have to let the pipes cool.

I'll check out the Honda cover. Like Frigitator said, $65 is not bad for something that works. I bought a $21 Cover at Walmart, and it lasted 3 years, but it was a large for one of my other bikes and it fit well, but they only seem to stock Large and X-Large these days.

Thanks for the info,
Eric

ask the man on teh intarweb

motorcycle-superstore.com has a number of covers - worth checking out. Very efficient internet store. I bought one for something like $35 plus shipping and it's worked out well so far (1 month of keeping sun and rain at bay - I don't have a garage)

I'm assuming since you say you are wanting cover and hide at work, the bike won't have a chance to cool completely. Just make sure the cover you get specifically says "allow immediate use after riding" or "heat panels" to keep from melting the material to the exhaust. Those less expensive covers will tell you "Wait for bike to cool before applying cover" or are made from PVC or Polyester without heat panels will melt.

Another tip. If you have a windshield, put a towel over it before putting the cover on to keep the cover from slapping and scratching the windshield.

I also got mine at the Honda stealer, pretty much like what cagie is describing. I paid 54 bucks including tax, it was originally 60 or so. I always ask (learned form my Grandma) if that is the best price, if that's the best they can do, "the "other" honda dealer (there are 2 in the Memphis area) gives me at least 10% discount". They always bring down the price. They are aware they are overpriced, and they have competition. I tried the same at HD it doesn'r work with them. But it never hurts to ask, worst thing they can say is "nope". I don't cover mine at work, but always keep the cover in the sadlebag, when I'm "stranded" at my GF's and have to stay overnight, her parking lot is less than ideal, so I cover it, and park it as close as I can to her window. Great advice from Cagie on protecting the windshield, haven't thought of it. Something I learned is to use the straps on the bottom. The space on the soft seat, between the windshield and the backrest looks like a tent for a cat. Without the straps a cat will climb in. Nothing against cats, but it will take a nap and mark its territory leaving the bike with a bad cat urine stink. Easily transferible to your jeans if not wipped properly. Don't ask me how I learned this. A lot more common when the weather was cooler.

Probably the most important info on this thread! I'm single and can attest, it's hard trying to impress a women when you smell like "territory"!
