I'm 41. I just starting riding a motorcycle on 12/19/2009 when I took the Basic Rider's Course. Got my Honda Rebel on 12/26/2009. Rode it for 3 days before I had to take it in to the motorcycle shop for some work. Since I knew nothing about motorcycles I purchased one but missed some stuff. I knew the rear tire was worn out but I missed the chain. It was already adjusted way past the point for a new one, according to the indicator. I'm hoping to get the bike back by tomorrow afternoon and go ride some more.

Welcome to the forum. If you get a service manual, you'll find you can do all sorts of money saving things to your bike that will prolong its life. It will probably pay for itself on the first repair you do.
Many here recommend independent motorcycle shops over the dealership (a.k.a. stealership) if you have a mechanical problem you don't feel comfortable addressing. The dealership is motivated to sell you another bike, and often charges very high rates to encourage you in that direction. The independent repair shop usually doesn't sell bikes and wants you back as a repeat customer. Two different motivations.
Progress as you feel comfortable and your skills improve. I recommend David Hough's book, Proficient Motorcycling, and doing internet searches for motorcycle safety tips. Lots of good information there that can make you a safer, injury free, rider.

Received an awsome gift from the hubby, complete idiots guide to motorcycling. at first I just laughed, but having read most of it I found that it is full of useful information. If I can't ride until spring at least I can study about riding. Ohh welcome to the greatest forum.

Very Funny photo you scared me LOL. I was at my Retreds Breadkfast yesterday and we will be going in August to celebrate a brother Retread's Birthday who is turning 100 he rides with a side car and his wife of 90 rides in the side car. He is very excited about riding when he is 100. So How about that.

I think I look about average for a 50 year old guy, I am a little on the heavy side, and yes, I'm cheap or at least want to get everything I can out of every dollar, but thats not my fault. It's hereditary. I'm a Scotsman. Jerry.
