hey jakeman, yeah that is pretty dadgum close to what i want to do. maybe a little different, but thats pretty close. i know a rebel wont make the fastest CAFE RACER, but thats not what i am interested in. i am all about the style of it. i outgrew speeding when my son was born. but man, that pic LOOKS GOOD. thanks for the pic, i am going to keep this one as a guide line. i have seen other CAFE RACER pics, but this one looks better. plus, that engine is almost identical. almost.

First of all, a CB350 is a completely different bike from a Rebel. It does not have the long and low cruiser frame. It would be better to start with another bike if you want to build something like that.

While that is a really cool looking bike, I would be unable to ride it, because of the low bars. I actually want to put higher bars on my Rebel, but intend to wait until I have a complete plan before changing anything, to avoid wasting a lot of work and money.

What I really want is a chopper, with tall ape hangers and forks with about a 45 degree rake.

Oh, and the thing about keeping it awhile till it gets more beat up, that doesn't work with me. No matter how beat up it may have been to begin with, the longer I keep it, the nicer it gets. And if it was new, it pretty much stays new. My '02 Vulcan 750 with 43,000+ miles on it, is still in basically new condition, other than the modifications I've made, and they are all oem quality or better. Jerry.

Rebels backbone and seat rails dont lend themselves to the old style cafe bike look. Its not straight from front to back. You can do this though.

In the pic you can see how low the tank sits at the top by the neck. Channeling the tank down over the back bone can give the appearance of being straight. It would be a lot of fab work (you could make a fiberglass shell over the original) but so worth it.

i know it wont be easy. i know the frame isnt perfect for doing it. but the whole point of building a custom is to make it look like you want, even if someone tells you it cant be done. i love it when someone tells me i cant build something, makes me want to do it that much more. plus, i have built enough stuff that building parts and changing the tail characteristics wont be that hard anyway. but thats just me. thanks for the criticism though, its always good to have constructive criticism.
