Snow sucks
We had a dusting of snow here in Dallas last night. I grew up in snow country, and an inch or two that is sure to melt off the next day is nothing up there, but here it's a major event. By morning, all the main roads were treated a mixture of sand and ice melting chemicals. This stuff leaves a residue of gritty stuff like clay cat litter. The streets are coated with a white film, and the center of the lanes are piled up with this stuff. It will take several good rainfalls to rinse all this stuff away, and in the mean time, riding is going to be rather dangerous in spots. I have a week off from work, and even if it warms up enough to ride, it will be treacherous trying to keep the wheels from slipping out from under. Bah! Humbug!

We don't have many plows. They spread sand and chemicals on some roads. I was in other parts of town today that didn't look like they had been treated. Pretty scattered and random.

hook a flame thrower up on your bike so you can melt the snow as you ride. the city might even pay you.

The ice is long gone; it's the crap the city puts down for it that causes trouble. A street sweeper to precede me would be ideal, but I'd have to be elected to public office to get that kind of service.
