Cool Sales people! Sheesh!

All right so I have a passion for harley's especially the sportster and the rocker. I love the bullet style turn signals they use so I went to harley to get some ideas. So I walk in and I'm wearing my HONDA joe rocket jacket and some clown says "don't you have on the wrong jacket snicker snicker snort snort?" That to me just says get out punk we don't want your buisness and little does he know but that little comment killed any chance he or most likely even his store will ever have of earning my buisness.

So the next question is inevitable " what do you ride?" Like it (*$&$#@ matters! So I could tell him in which case I get the blank stair like so why are you coming to us for parts or I can go with plan B which has been my most successfull reply. It's custom, I say.

Any way for their set up off a sportster it's about 300 bucks total. They have a really cool side mounted cheap looking lic frame on their nightster. Its simple it has a light and really nothing to it visibly. When you look it up it has a larger behind the fender overcomlicated mount and the total assembly is 170 bucks! so I said forget it.

On a tip, I went to a used bike shop down town, backalley, hole in the wall joint. I went in and it was handle bar to handle bar bikes through the whole room up to the counter because they were expecting rain. The small walk that led up to a counter had a crotchety old prune disquised as someones mother behind the counter. Again with the jacket comment I could have throttled the (Bword inserted here)! So I asked about lights and she showed me three examples in boxes that were quote "really expensive". ( This place was wall to wall used stuff too) So I asked if whe had any used and she grumbled about a leaking roof and all three boxes getting ruined. All I heard was discount. I asked if I could rummage through the boxes and she gave me another good ear bashing about her boss already dug through theboxes too cus he didnt believe her and he condemed them after seeing the destructive carnage (water) left.

So she said your more than wlecome to look. These boxes wer awesome! sure the ones on top were a littel corroded but under neath laid the fortune that most men would dream about I mean if I had a harley I would be tickled. many were too large for what I wanted. I quickly started catagorizing them by size and shape adn condition untill I had a pretty good selection in front of me I must have spent 40 minutes going through all the boxes and was about to move on to headlights and brake lights next when she saw what I had in my hand and said " I don't know why your waisting your time with those you can buy them brand new for 12 bucks each!" The only thought that came to mind would have got me arrested I wanted to kill the (Insert the Bword here too)!

Those really expensive lights were discussed earlier were in fact 25 each and so I bought 2 and ordered teh frotn which have one filiment each grand total 80 bucks with a discount for buying a whole set! I still want to kill the (Bword inserted)!

Some folks don't understand the meaning of "customer service" and "the customer is always right".

Being a new rider when ever I went into a bike shop I was told what I should ride. Of course they all wanted me to by the biggest and most expensive bike. I was a new rider and wanted something I could handle. That is why I decided to go with a pre owned Rebel. I know that they have to make a sale. But why sell something to someone that you know is not right. I simply told them that sure I would buy it and pay cash for it if they like, but If I don't like it they can take it back and refund all of my money. Needless to say after that I was able to look around by myslef.

We've got a big harley shop, several mixed (used) shops, and an import shop.... But there is one little gem buried in the part of town that most people avoid, that has wall to wall used bikes of every make model shape and size. This is the shop I go to. Never have I been ridiculed for riding a rebel, or for buying parts typically reserved for harleys. In fact, I Think I've inspired the owner to build a few custom bobbers out of bikes that might otherwise rot away because of their outdated appearance.

Sure I'd love to buy myself a Harley (I love the sound) I don't think I'd get the same joy from it that I get from my rebel.

At least you get spoken to, being a girl I usually get ignored or they speak over me to my husband (not hard when he is 5ft 11 and I am 4ft 10).

Well they say customer service is a dead art, and your story tells why. Sorry dude.

First, customer service is always a good thing, and is usually what earns my repeat business. But there is precious little of it around these days. As for "the customer is always right" thing, that is just not true. Many customers can be rude and overly demanding in their expectations, no matter how well you treat them. I admit if I go into a Japanese dealership, I go in with that attitude, because I know what to expect from them. And I never fail to get it, usually before I've said a word.

I also like Harleys, especially Sportsters, and hope to own one someday, though obviously not a new one. We have several Harley dealers around here that treat you just like the Japanese dealers, and one that is really nice. I go there every once in a while, and get along with them just fine. I'm usually wearing one of my J&P black t-shirts, ( which is what I ride in most of the time) and do sort of look like a biker, with a beard and ponytail, and a couple of tattoos. I drool all over the new bikes, realize I will never be able to afford one, and leave, but usually not before having a pleasant conversation with one of the salespeople, or on occasion, the owner himself. Jerry.

No reason you can't afford a H.D. Sporty. There's lots of them around for pretty cheap. This past fall/winter was the ideal time to score one. prices are rising again with the nice weather but wait till fall and you can get a decent one for under 5 grand easy.
