New bike

I guess I forgot to mention that I bought a new bike about a week ago. It is a brand new '09 Kawasaki EX500 Ninja, in black. I only have about 200 miles on it so far, but will be putting on more now, since the GenMar handlebar risers I ordered the day I bought it finally came in, and I got the bars raised high enough that it no longer hurts to ride it. I had this mod in mind when I bought it. I got it OTD for $4500, $1100 below MSRP. I used my tax refund to buy it, and paid cash. Will post a picture when I find my camera, but there are a lot of pictures on Kawasaki's site. Jerry.

That's downright awesome deal. Id love a new ninja, especially a 500. Have the 09s been face lifted like the 250s?

No, the '09s are still the same old thing, which doesn't bother me a bit, and '09 is the last year for them. That, and the economy is probably why I got it so cheap. It was actually a couple hundred less OTD than the '09 Ninja 250. They are being dropped because of the 650 Ninja, and the new ER-6N. Apparently when those came out the 500 quit selling. It first came out in '87, had a number of renovations done in '94, when it received the Ninja name, and has been the same since. I cannot ride a 250 Ninja because the bars are to low, and actually so are the ones on the 500, but not as bad as the 250. Plus you can get risers, which I got.

I also considered the '09 KLX250SF, a supermotard bike, because of the bars, but it was $600 more, and half the displacement. I just lucked out on the 500, the dealer had just gotten a truckload of them, and was desperately trying to sell them.

Despite it's old design, it is an excellent non hardcore sport bike, and handles like a dream. It is also fast, doing the 1/4 mile in just over 12 seconds. It has 4hp more than the Vulcan 750, and is over 50 pounds lighter. It makes a surprising amount of power for a 500cc twin. Jerry.
