Honda Rebel won't re-start!?

Any ideas why my 2005 Honda Rebel 250 won't restart? I just service done to it, oil change, the carb cleaned, and a general check over. I am the third owner and the last owner let the bike sit last year. It overall runs fine except after i ride it to work (about 2 miles) and let it sit for a couple hours and go back to start it, it won't re-start back up. I do turn the gas to off every time its sitting. I put the choke on, half on, off and it sounds like it wants to start but it won't. If i give it a little gas on choke it will start right up. I'm wondering if its a battery thing or should i leave the gas on even though i've been told i should always turn the gas off? I never have a problem start my bike up in the morning after it has sat all night. Any ideas?

Do you have to use choke at first start in the morning?

Turning the petcock off isn't a bad thing. If the float sticks or the vents get plugged, that will prevent fuel all over the place. I will say that personally, I rarely ever turn mine off, but that's just me.

Welcome to the forum, Stevie. Mine restarts without choke when it's warm. Have you tried warm starts without the choke?

Yes, i have to use the choke in the morning when i haven't started it up. But if i have ran it for awhile i don't need to use choke to start it. This bike takes forever to warm up even when its 70 outside. I will try not turning off my gas and see if that might be my problem. This bike seems to have a mind of its own.

Welcome stevie, sounds like you have crud in the carb. Try using some Sea Foam to get rid of it.

The bike does take a while to warm up. I also have to use some choke to start.

I use my petcock regularly, so that wouldn't be the issue.

You say you only ride it a couple of miles to work in the morning. That's not really enough time for the engine to get fully to operating temperature. I even have to use the chole after the bike sits for an hour or so.
