The HD folks around here are 50/50. Some would just as well run you over, the others will watch. There are a few friendlies here and there. They will allow you to ride in the same lane.
They take their HD'ing seriously and won't acknowledge "Jap" bikes. I tried to explain once... I says to them "HONDA! Eh, forget it. It would take me a lifetime to explain. Wanna borrow some wrenches? I only need the one for the oil drain plug."
Take them seriously? Never.

I love it! It's all in good fun. I'm grateful that I'm alive, healthy and I can ride!

I shine it on. I get an occasional comment, but if the conversation continues past " I enjoy it", I ask about gas mileage. When I tell them that my best tank was 93 MPG, the tone changes.

I once met a guy on a cbr600rr 09 and he came up to me saying my bike was "tiiiiiinyyyyyy" and continued to brag how he could hit 180. Im assuming this is similar to the HD thing but later on, he warmed up to me and told me that he wish he kept his old ninja 250. I guess some people just need their short lived moment of pride.

I've found it depends on the people... I've been working on getting my bike road worthy and my "boss" and a guy from the shop next to me have been pushing me to get it done so we can go riding. My boss rides a Harly 1300 somethin and the other guy rides a GZ250....
by the way my boss let me ride his Harly the other day.... I gota admit, I loved it

They are in all walks of life. Wine snobs, surf snobs. Pretentiosuness is the name of the game -you buy into it- you lose money by buying overpriced shat and they win by convincing people that the emperor really is wearing clothes.
I prefer individual sports, I took up surfing indirectly by body-boarding first, the amount of crap i heard from supposedly "chilled out dudes" was incredible. No matter what interest you follow - human kind will find a way to divide.

We have a cycle store/shop very close to my home. Its all HD all the time. I go there for small stuff like chain lube and when I visit on my RE or Honda I am treated with respect, offered advice, and have questions answered. The people there have an intrest in you and your bike and make you feel welcomed.
