According to the legend that I read, they have to be made of brass. Any small brass bell will work. Mine is a brass sleigh bell, paid less than $3 out the door. Got mine from Lehman's Hardware in Kidron, Ohio. They do mail order. The store is an Amish hardware store and as such, claims fame as having the most non-electrical devices in the world. Pretty cool place to visit actually. Any way you can see my sleigh bell in my latest pics, if you want an idea of what they look like.

My friend had a bell on his bike - now I know what it was for. I dont have one to swap will have to look around some flea markets see what i can find.

I've also heard that your bell is supposed to given to you, not bought by you. From what i've heard about bells, there are all kinds of querky little rules about them.

I didn't know this thread existed. Cagie and I are exchanging bells though.

I think it's really cool that people from the forum are exchanging. I asked the guy at a local shop if they sold alot of them. His answer "Not really, I guess people don't care about people anymore." I'm glad some people still do.
