78 Zuke GS750 Build, or how I'm spending the winter

Had a member of another forum give me another 78 GS750 as he knew I was building one. The price was right so I jumped on it with both feet. Ya just cant beat FREE! Didnt know what I was going to do with it, but free is free, so I picked it up. I still needed to finish my bike and stuck it in the corner of the garage for the time being.

So the other day, on another forum I belong to, they announced that the 2010 bike build off was starting and I decided I was going to give it a try with this bike. So I thought I'd share this with you guys as this goes along. The mods are allowing me to post it and I hope you guys enjoy following it as it progesses.

So heres what I dragged home.

It's cool. At first I thought it was one of those deals that some sites put up when you try to hot link.

Cool!

I almost bought a '78 GS750 once, but I decided it was too much bike for me, lol.

Henry, would you be able to provide some text explaining what you've done in the photos as you go along? Would help us inexperienced guys to better understand the process. Just a request, no need if it's a hassle.

Sure Flite, I'll be glad to!

Incentive to start cutting up the bike, and the number one tool to use. My backyard 10 minutes ago and my favorite tool. Ill post some pics of what all I get cut today, later.

I love the old late '70s UJMs, completely stock. Standard bikes like the GS, CB, KZ, and XS were new back when I was a teenager, and I wanted one so bad, but couldn't afford it at the time. I have searched Craigslist and Cycle Trader, but have never been able to find a stock one in good condition. I would love to have a bone stock KZ1000, also known as the Z1. Those old bikes were faster than ANY of todays v-twin cruisers, they looked cool (to me), and they had a fairly comfortable seating position. Jerry.

That thing's a little rough. Can't wait to see what you turn it into, and how.

A sawsall huh? My favorite tools are a die grinder with a cutoff wheel, and a Dremel with a reinforced cutoff wheel. Basically the same thing, ones just bigger than the other. I once cut a car in half with a pneumatic die grinder. Jerry.
