After installing aftermarket pipes on my 2001 rebel (mac pies - highly recommend) I noticed that the top speed of the bike dropped to less than 65 mph.

I figured a loss would appear, knowing the carbn would need to be rejetted. Well there are no replacement jets available, unless you want to try and drill one out with a hobby bit.

So the next best thing is to shim the carb neddle.

To shim the needle you nee a washer the same size as the head of the needle, and with a hole big enough to let the washer slide all the way up the needle to the head of the needle. Buy liftin the needle the extra fuel flow need to compensate for the new pipes is achieved. Top speed on my rebel is now 90ish.

I am looking for another used carb at the moment, I will post step by step instructions for the process along with real pic of the procedure once I get another carb.

This is a inexpensive do it yourself mod that really works.

Kehin Keihen.. well whatever, i can't spell Kihien!!!! Anyway stock Honda jets (Kehien?) should be available in different sizes at the Honda dealer. I'm not aware of any aftermarket jet kits though. The stock jet in my 04 was a 108. For pipes only, a 110 may do the trick and at about $3 per jet, it's almost as cheap as a needle shim (LOL).

FWIW: If you were to rejet to a larger jet, the needle shim probably wouldn't be needed. I believe both the needle shimmed and a larger jet would be too rich in most cases.

BTW: Nice web page cTc!

Another good point, I was able to do the shimming without removing the carb, which is why I chose that route. Moving up a jet size would also yeild the same results.

I just so happened to have a washer in my toolbox that worked. Once you get the diaphram out you will be able to see the size washer you will need.
