After doing the self-tapping oil drain plug, decided to see if the bike would fire as I'd left it sitting for the past couple of months. Thankfully, the battery still had enough juice to light her up & let it idle for about 15 mins.
Had been worried about the old fuel in the gas tank as well as the carbs that had been sitting, so decided to add some Seafoam to the gas tank, topped her off with fresh fuel & took her for a fairly decent ride to get some charge put back into the battery. If the carbs aren't extremely gunked up, the SeaFoam will help to clean 'em out while running. Much easier than pulling the carbs, tearing them down & cleaning them & then having to re-sync them, LOL!
Still going to pull the battery tomorrow, check the water level & put it on a trickle charge to bring it fully back up to snuff. While the battery is charging, will be swapping out the stock 450cc Rebel shocks & installing a set of shocks from a 250cc Rebel to lower the rear end approx. 3". Next step after that will be cutting the pipes & installing EMGO 12" Shorties. I respect that some (or a lot, LOL!) of people don't care for loud pipes, but personally, I can't ride a bike that doesn't offer some "brraaAPP!!!!" Not sure what it is, just seems like quiet pipes interfere with the clutch operation or something. Strange.......
