Hi everyone,
I am a proud owner of a 1986 Rebel 250. I just dropped it off at the local moto shop to get it checked out, but it rode like a dream on my way there. I started out with a Ninja 250, but quickly realized that I prefer cruisers over sportbikes. Yahoo! I can't wait to ride it around this afternoon! :D

Hi guys,
Well I got my bike back this afternoon and the guys at Bits and Pieces said that I need to clean my carbs. The motorcycle wont run unless the choke is halfway open. I've been checking out the other threads in the forums for alternative ways to do it rather than pay them $80 to do it for me. Seafoam has been showing up in a number threads. Apparently you add 1/3 of the can to your gas tank and ride it for a while and its suppose to do the trick. Let me know if you guys think that's a good idea. Can't wait to get you opinions.

Welcome aboard, shycapnay.......
Pretty sure you just added an "s" as the 250 Reb is a single carb, the 450 Reb being the one that runs duals.
Do you know how long the bike sat before you scored it ? If it's been a long time, it might be better to just pull the carb & clean it yourself. That way, it'll be totally up to snuff & give you many, many trouble-free miles.
If it was only sitting for a short period of time, guess you could "try" runnin' her with SeaFoam added to see if it'll clean things up as you ride, but you may find yourself having to ultimately pull the carb if there's simply too much splooge in there.
Buying the Clymer's Manual for your Reb is highly recommended & shows you a good step by step procedure for carb cleaning. Good luck & please keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks for the tips GearJammer. I just bought my service manual this morning. Can't wait to learn how to do my own maintenance. And I've decided to clean the carbs, just to make sure that my bike will be in tip-top shape. Its just been two days and this is by far the best forum I've joined. Will keep you guys up to date. Thanks again!
