Good Morning All, How would I go about securing my full face helmet to my 250 Rebel? I do have a helmet lock, but the helmet strap won't reach the lock? Any suggestions? Thank you.

Dennis Kirk and JC Whitney sell flat metal extenders for a few bucks, that allow these otherwise useless helmet locks to be used. They are a T-shaped piece of metal with a circular hole in the narrow end of them. You pass the 't' portion through the metal ring on your helmet, then attach the other end, via the round hole, to your helmet lock. Work just fine.
Your other choice is to get or make a swaged cable and loop the cable through your helmet, then lock one of the swaged loops to your helmet lock.
The beauty of using a swaged cable is that, if it is long enough, you can also loop it through the sleeve of your jacket and even another helmet, and secure a LOT of gear on your bike. Just make sure whatever you lock isn't resting on a hot exhaust pipe.
I suspect those helmet locks might work for those folks who are brave enough or carefree enough to wear a skid lid (half helmet)

I bought a coated bicycle chain with combination lock and I hang my helmet on the handlebars. Works great and was just a few dollars at Walmart.

I only tried the helmet lock once and didn't care for it (full face helmets just don't seem to fit), but I thought that someone mentioned that the helmet seemed to sit on the exaust pipe?

Thanks wheezeburnt, jkersch and balisada for responding to my question. I will see which one works best. Have a wonderful evening.

I did something along the lines of what wheezeburnt and jkersch
mentioned, but I used a set of chrome handcuffs. I cut them apart
and welded a long dogs choker collar to them. A little bulky but
looks cool.

Handcuffs. That's cool. I will have to remember that.

I have to try that handcuffs idea. I just bought a 86 rebel 250 and the helmet lock is nowhere to be found. I really don't want to have to lug my helmet around to my classes. Thanks for the tip. :D

Do a Yahoo search for Helmet Guardian. Kinda pricey, but I have one on m Rebel.

Was in the Honda dealer last week, they have two new Rebels in stock.
Noticed Honda moved the helmet lock off the frame and now it sticks out off a bracket.
The old design meant it sat right above the chainguard and could actually put a dent in the guard over big bumps.
Very nice Honda finally made the long overdue design change.
Also, easier to get a helmet on to it now.

Ron:
Not sure they anticipated that folks would ride with a helmet attached to the helmet lock. Yes, I'd be VERY concerned if my helmet were bouncing off hard parts while I rode (not to mention the 'denting' issue). With the new setup, is there some way of holding the helmet so its not constantly banging and threatening its integrity? Otherwise, I'd be inclined to bungee it to the pillion punishment pad.

So handcuffs aren't just for dating anymore? Did I say that out loud?
