Oh boy, the fun never ends with a 20 year old, out -of -production bike! So I wrote in recently about my trek down the coast hiway to S.F.. I wrote how my speedo cable snapped just 6 miles into the trip. Well, It turns out I was wrong. The cable didn't snap, the flat pin which inserts into the end of the cable at the axle is what snapped. Not available through Honda, so I shall check with Jack, of course.
My question is, what may have caused this to happen? I had just put the wheel back on after the fork oil seal change, and I'm wondering if it's possible that I tightened the speedo cable screw too much? Could that have caused the cable to snap? Or perhaps it may have been too long since the cable's been lubed last? (although it seems to turn with little resistance..) Anybody had any experience with this particular problem?
So I guess if Jack doesn't have the part, I'll disassemble the box and see if it's a part I can make myself. If not, well, who needs a speedometer anyhow?
