While the Reb was sitting idle since this Spring waiting for the CDI, I thought about maybe adding up-sweeps. My neighbor has a pipe-bender & could probably manage it no problem. Running straight headers w/the EMGO's now & am content with the sound.
If I go with up-sweeps, they'd run from end of headers, follow the front-slanting frame rail & end near the top of the rear fender. Might not be louder, but do you think the tone would be deeper ?

The upsweeps will lengthen the overall dimensions? If so, I think they will have a slightly deeper tone. I would love to have a soundfile of what they sound like. I am thinking of going with straightpipes on mine this winter while it is torn apart for paint and cleaning. Just curious as to the sound and if I will be happy with it. I will have the pipes custom made to make it look like stock, just not sound stock.

Thanx, Snorey..........Guess the added length of pipe would lower the tone similar to what a woodwind instrument would do to sound, yes ? Still debating the upswepts as I'm running saddlebags & if left to choose between the two, will keep the bags for practicality.
Your idea sounds great! Stock look with a deeper, louder tone & a slight increase in power as well! If I'm picturing this correctly, it'd be like "coring" the stock pipes & losing the restrictive baffles..........I l-i-k-e it! LOL!

Basically it is what I am doing. Gonna have straight pipes run the full length, then cut off the "muffler" at the weld and hollow it out to keep the stock shell. Then weld the shell back on to "hide" the fact they are straight pipes. Also will be able to keep the stock passenger pegs and brackets so for all intense and purposes, if you are looking at the bike you would think stock. Then when I fire it up it would be "How did he get stock pipes to sound like that?"!! ROTFLMAO!!!
