Hi folks -

Spanky here. New to the board, but I've had a Rebel for 20 years.
I got my 450 Rebel in 1986 for my 16th birthday, and it's pretty much still in the exact same condition as the day I got it.
It was never a full time runner, as I always had a car and living up north, our riding season is only about 5 months. More of a toy to cruise around on weekends. There is literally only about 6000km on it. That would be about 3500 miles I think. It would have got a lot more use, but after my dad's stroke about 12 years ago, he couldn't ride and handed his Harley down to me ('89 Electroglide Sport). I loved the Rebel so much, I vowed not to sell it, claiming one day I would have a son who I would hand it down to so we could ride together. Well, my son turns 4 next month, so in another 12 years he'll be getting a mint 1986 450 Rebel for his birthday. The chrome has been kept polished, she's never (well, hardly ever) been driven in the rain, and has always been stored indoors. I've been riding bikes since I was 6 years old, and this is hands down, the best running and riding bike I've owned.

Welcome Spanky!! I read your post and thought "WOW!! Almost the same story as me!!"

I also have a 1986 450.....bought new (in '87). Rode for 5 years and garaged it til this past winter. Now I am ridin again!!! I love mine and will pass it down to my daughter (she is 15). I have made some minor mods. Nothing that won't take a few minutes to return to stock. Will never sell it, she is my baby!! Had less than 6000 miles on her when I took her out of storage! Now she has a total of 7500 (since mid April). Try to ride as often as I can!!

Welcome to the board!!

Welcome aboard, Spanky! Excellent story there! With nearly 30 yrs. ridin' experience under your belt, you're no doubt going to be a valuable asset to the site.....new riders, seasoned riders, it's all good here

And your giving a tip o' the hat to the Rebel as the best running & riding bike you've owned speaks loudly. (Dang shame they discontinued this 450.....*sigh*)

Again, welcome to the site! Ride Safe......
