Hey Gear, :?: What's the story with your 450 and the CDI.
. Expireing minds want to know if you have solved the problem.

Mornin' Howard....

Had trouble-shot the original CDI by replacing it with a used loaner from a local indie shop. The loaner (already known to be defective) didn't have "ignition advance", but it did allow fire-up & an even idle, which confirmed that the original was pretty much now toast.

Was r-i-g-h-t at the point of ordering a new one. The indie shop's source said "discontinued", so was considering the source mentioned in another thread somewhere around here (have that info written down for when I can get to it)

Plans unexpectedly changed right around that time & have had to put both the Reb & the Trumpet project on hold, needing to prioritize maintainence on the running Trumpet to keep her roadworthy (something pretty cool in the works  )

When time & $$$ allow, will gladly get the CDI & the Reb back on the road ASAP. It's simply a matter of locating a solid source at that time.

With all the time left to only think & look forward, was wondering about these CDI problems in general. Main question being.....at what point do the sources for this particular CDI stop being available ? This 450 Reb is an EXCELLENT bike, but with it's 2 yr. production & a tight economy, I'm guessing that suppliers will start dropping this CDI from their inventory one by one ? A new one should do the trick for a good long time, but once they're no longer available, what then ? Am wondering if someone that has extensive electrical knowledge could open up a bad CDI & figure out how to make one. My landlord went to electrical school after electrical school while in the Air Force & is the most knowledgeable of folks that I know of personally. I may ask him if it's possible & if he's willing to tackle it, tho' he already stays busier than a person should be, LOL! In the short term, will buy one outright. In the long term, am just wondering if an electrian could identify the various components, resistances, etc. inside & be able to construct one from parts available to the general public ?

Sorry to the long-winded wandering, but there ya have it, LMAO!
