Hi,
After lurking for a bit I decided it was time for me to introduce myself and tell a little about my Rebel.

My name is Scott and I live in South Carolina. I have been working / building bikes for longer than I care to admit. I'm also a moderator on another chopper board and a member of several more, so the name might be recognisable to some.

Oh, I can't speel well so please forgive the typos!

I have always liked the Rebels and have wanted one ever since I saw the '87 Rebel 450 when it was new. I tried to buy one back then, but me being a teenager, I couldn't get financed even though I have been working since I was 12 (Farm Jobs and regular ones).

Well, the oppertunity to get one landed in my lap when a friend of mine purchased a beat up '87 Rebel 450 to learn how to work on bikes and decided he no longer was interested. I took it over and am going to re-build it. Stock? Custom? Somewhere in between? Who knows, I haven't made up my mind yet.

Anywho, here's a couple of pics of my disaster in progress...

I've got a new frame on the way but other than that I'm still looking/deciding what to do with the 'ol girl!

Welcome aboard, Scott! I'm in Union, not too far from Summerville. You're gonna like the folks here, this is the friendliest forum on the web! Looks like you got the makings for a fine project, be it restoration or custom, or even choppa!

Another of my sandlapper bro's buying '86-87 Rebels! I was lurking here until today and figured I'd shout out to you guys.

I just got my 1987 Rebel 450 last week and taking the MFS course Friday. Thank goodness I found some of these forums and Jack's shop ( http://www.rebelcatalog.com/default.htm ). Their all great places to learn and everyone seems very nice, with very few negative posters.

I'm just across the holler in Anderson, so once I get used to my bike and my skills improve, we'll all have to hook up and take a ride.

Be sure to keep us posted on your progress and what you're doing to the bike.

Thanks for the welcome! Good to see someone else from the land of heat, humidity, and mosquitoes!

Nah, not going to chop this one. I already have one of those in the works right now...

An Old School CB750 that if I can ever get back to work on, I'm going to take to next year's Heratage Rally and show the fools what an "Old School" bike show is all about!

And this is my daily rider...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/Cpt_Bondo/bikes/scott_n_bike.jpg

It's an '03 Honda Shadow Spirit 750. I've done a little work to it, but not much more than adding a sissy bar, saddlebags, and a more comfortable seat.

I've got others in the works too, but just don't have pics.

Scott, that king and queen throne is definitely 70's! That will definitely be a cool scoot. I'd be tempted to mold in the frame, shoot some really heavy metalflake, man, I like the old 750's.

Do you ever make it over to hooters on thursdays for bike night? I think we are riding over tomorrow night, we're across the creek in elberton. But we havent been over much this year due to lack of time.

This is turning out to be a southern's thread now.

cTc, no I haven't. I have weekends off and work a split 2nd/3rd for the old USPS in Greenville and since I don't know how to ride YET (Friday I take my Tri County Tech Beginners course), I've only been able to drool over the bikes at Hooters and Wild Wings on the weekends.

But give me time, I'll be taking time off, riding up to there, and enjoying the bikes soon enough. Got a few Harley co-workers at another Postal facility that live here in Anderson that don't know I've bought a bike and learning to ride. They'll be dragging me out soon enough I think.

Oh, if you haven't been up to Hooters in a while to notice the Wild Wings Cafe, it's GREAT! I'm an old fan of the Wild Wings Cafe's when I visted the one in Beauford area with some college buddies back in 1991 and love to go there with the family. Beats Hooters hands down in my opinion for atmosphere and quality of food/beer.

Athens has had a wild wing cafe for 8 or more years now and we eat there a good bit, its right in downtown so walking to all the bars and clubs is easy.

There's a Wildwings on main st in Spartanburg too. Really good food. No, I haven't been to Hooters on bike night in Greenville. That's about 70 miles from here, so I usually don't get to Gville during the week.

Yeah, right off Clemson Blvd and the I-85 Exit 19. Where the Cracker Barrel is if you need a landmark.

Hooters and Wild Wings are right across from each other and on weekends those two places park lots cannot hold everyone and they actually start filling up two other business' parking lots. Wild Wings is so full that the trucks park on the grass surrounding it. It's crazy up there. But of course the bikes are parked at the front of the buildings and everyone hangs out. Really a good crowd and generally very well behaved as lots of families are around. And if you want wings and things but want a more tame place to eat and much less of a crowd, Buffalo's Southwest Cafe is right beside them.

The new fatz cafe is open there as well, love the food there also. Or if you extra $ to spend theres an outback right beside hooters.

I've eaten at that Cracker Barrel a few times, knew it was growing in that area, just haven't been there in a while.

Welcome Cpt. Bondo & drinkoj!

Am borrowing a s-l-o-w dial-up computer while out-of-state & if I had to rely on this computer permanently, I'd be getting PLENTY more saddle-time instead! LMAO!

Headin' home towards the end of the month, will have access to the OL's computer & will try to play catch-up then.

Ride Safe.......

(Edit: Just saw the new title.....Grand Poobah of Posting, ROTFLMAO!!!!! ut-oh.....that's sounds dangerously close to The Flintstones Fraternal Order of Water Buffalos...... )

Some great rideing in CT. :?: What part were you in. I built the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester many years ago and enjoyed my travels around the area while I was there.

Spent most of our time near the shoreline, West Haven on eastwards to Guilford, Westbrook, Clinton, Old Saybrook, etc.

You're right, Howard. We were impressed with the roads, except for a fair number of drains near the right shoulders, saw LOTS of bikers taking advantage of the riding season.

Manchester is a pretty nice area as I recall. The TREES were amazing & beautiful, but after awhile it felt a bit claustrophobic compared to the wide opens of the desert, LMAO!
