Liscence plate housing was removed and the plate was shaped to fit inside the fender. Took about 1 hour to do.

Let me know what you think.

You know what? I really love the way that looks!!!! I have been looking at my 250 and doing a lot of visual designing. I think I would like to try that. I am also thinking about removing the back seat and getting a friend of my hubby who is a fabricator to make me a luggage rack to go in place of the seat. I also just bought a pair of really cool old leather studded saddlebags off ebay. Can't wait to get them.

I....L-I-K-E....it! It's innovative & looks very cool!

Have seen stock Rebel tail-lights re-located to that position & it DOES fit very nicely tucked under there, as does the license plate. When I've seen the stock tail-light mod done that way, I had a question which I'd never asked & the question has come up again.

PLEASE don't take this as a criticizm, but strictly as a question as I DO like the looks of it.....very much!

Whether it's the license plate by itself or the stock Rebel tail-light tucked under the rear fender w/license plate below it (have also seen side-mounted stock Rebel tail-lights w/license plate below it)...the oversight I've noticed is no license plate bulb to illuminate the license plate during a night ride. In this state, that would mean an immediate pull-over & a possible ticket (neither of which I ever look forward to, LMAO!) I've been pulled over once for license plate and/or both stickers "not being plainly visible" & once for a "flickering tail-light" bulb.

Just wondering if this could be a potential problem where you live or not & if so....well....that's the question (and again, NOT criticizm)

I am planning to add some leds or the license plate bolts with lights in them for that reason. I just hd a little time this afternoon and thought it might look good.

Thanx, jkersh........I've always wondered if some states let it ride or not because, as mentioned, we'd be in trouble pronto here.....some cops just look for any reason to pull bikers over & this would be one excuse for 'em.

And it does. It looks GREAT! Very well done

I really think that this is illegal. But so is having your plate vertical on the side. Here cops arent that interested in the little things (knock on wood). Ill let you know if I get any hassles.

The dog bones and drag bars look pretty good on your Rebel. Did it raise the height of the bars any? How do you like the ride now with the new bars?

"jkersh", Please don't get me wrong, not "every" cop will pull us over for just any excuse, but "some" will & it only takes that "one".

They seem to let the vertical license plate mounts & straight pipes, even ape-hangers higher than reg slide as long as the rider isn't hot-doggin' it. But I get a bit nervous when it comes to plates.

At one point, my son had the license plate on his bobber mounted directly under the sprung solo seat & it was obscured by the rear wheel. I pointed that out to him in the hopes that he'd avoid any problems. Eventually, he went with a vertical side mount, LMAO!

Was casually rapping with the OL about the plate under the solo seat & she said "If you think about it, the license plate is the only thing that the cops have to go by when they're following you. If they can't see the plate, it's gonna tick 'em off".

Once again, I'm NOT intending to single you out. I honestly dig the mod, but am offerring this more for others who might not be thinking far enough ahead. Plus, there's always the chance that the headlights of any cop behind you might illuminate the plate to where they wouldn't even notice the absence of a license plate bulb, LMAO!

Ride Safe, Brother........

maybe pulling the license plate to the very edge of the fender would solve any visual problems? :?:

I already have 1 1/2" spacers behind the plate. I was thinking the same thing but I need to go to the hardware store for that.

It did raise the height maybe an inch but they are probable 6"s forward. I really like the feel of the bars now. I have long arms and I can stretch them out all the way for a more comfortable ride.

I just love throwin my 2 pennies into these conversations...

Some cops...I got a jeep 2 years ago and when I got my stickers, I noticed the stack of previous ones in the lower right corner were peeling. Not wanting my new one to fall off, I put it a couple inches above the 'OFFICIAL' spot. Within 2 weeks, I got pulled over and given a warning 3 times by 3 different cops. Not one of them had even seen the current sticker because they said they only look in the lower corner for it. Never mind that it's bright yellow and just 3 fingers' width above the old ones! I had to pay the five bucks and get new stickers because you can't get them off and move them. It cracks me up sometimes. But it goes to show you how they can be about plates.
But it seems to me that lighting that plate would be super easy, anyway. A small bulb housing at the bottom center of the plate, facing up, could do the trick without being obtrusive to the look. Unless it's illegal to have it facing up!

I went and got my license yesterday and the guy at the dmv inspected my bike he didnt say anything about it but he did mention the back tire.

"jkersh".....Hey! Those guys at MVD just have to say SOMETHING! LMAO! In this case it was the rear tire. No worries either way, as "mmwood" mentioned, it wouldn't be difficult to add a light if you choose to, it's obviously your call. But "mmwood's" post also reminded me of a similar pull-over (driving a cage that time) The statey was following me on the blind side, next lane over, just out of my rear view. Sure enough, he finally pulled me over & had me get out of the car. He pointed to the stack of stickers, with the current one missing! Got a written warning saying I needed to get another sticker. Then he told me that when people keep adding sticker upon sticker, it's easy for someone to just snag part of the stack & then carefully peel off the top/current one. Ever since that pull-over, whenever I get a new sticker, I remove the previous one first as a single sticker can't be removed without trashing it.

jkersh,

Better start thinking about replacing that rear tire, like yesterday!

You could leave it go but real soon its going to let you down.
