It has been pretty hot here lately and I have noticed some riding in shorts.

Yesterday, I changed the front brakes, done the cell phone mod and had some electrical anomolies. So, today I decided to check out the stuff I had done after a round of golf and I had my shorts on. Now I remember the reason why I don't ride in shorts.....the sand on the road that the cages in front of me throw STING on my legs!! Not to mention the insects.....Not so bad when no one is in front of me. The only way I would ride with shorts is if I am on a Gold Wing or similar bike.

I have seen some wearing leather chaps lately with shorts underneth. Best of both worlds!

See it all the time, shorts & sneakers. My own personal rule of thumb is jeans or jeans & chaps & boots. That motor & the pipes get hot, Hot, HOT & the thought of possibly dumping the bike & getting pinned under that stuff helps to keep me from even getting tempted otherwise.

hear, hear . . .

i for one, would not even consider riding in shorts . . not even when i was only riding as a passenger! got into that good habit becuase the guy i was dating and always rode with wouldn't even considering taking me on the bike unless i wore jeans, boots and jacket . . hell, he wouldnt even let me ride if i didnt have eye protection on! yeah, he was pretty particular about all that and in turn, i'm now the same way . .

now we did used to ride in t-shirts when it was unbareably hot in the summer . . but since my accident i've decided i wont do that again and am currently hunting down a mesh armored jacket . . pretty much decided on what i'm getting . . just gotta get it ordered . .

but yeah, no shorts for me when on the bike . . can't imagine what my leg would look like had i been in shorts when i took my slide across gravel and grass!

Good point......road rash scars wouldn't be desireable, especially for a woman, since women seem more prone to wanting to wear shorts on various occasions (and us guys are glad they do! LMAO!)

We've got a good friend who rides out from Virginia every 2 yrs. He makes the run in 2 1/2 days, but is an extremely good rider & is safety conscious in his riding apparel: 1/2 helmet, knee-high boots, leather jacket, even in the triple digit temps we get in the summer, which is when he comes out here. Now, I can't wear a leather jacket in the summer, no way, no how. It's jeans & boots, but no helmet & sleeveless or tank top shirts with leather riding vest....which only makes me a hypocrite from the waist up, ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!

I see it all the time. Today a guy in shorts, short sleeve shirt, and sneakers on the freeway going 80 or more and splitting lanes to to pass everyone who was speeding at 75.

Same here. I drive I-95 for a few miles to and from work and it amazes me to see people on bikes with all that bare skin
Yesterday a guy on a HD passing everything in sight... muscle shirt and shorts, no helmet.

I may be stubborn (and a little bit chicken) but I'm not foolish

Same here - lots of bare skin. Alot of the men ride with no shirt at all.

Always boots and jeans for me. I am guilty of riding as a passenger with a tank top and have rode my Rebel with just a t-shirt. I've ordered a full face helmet and mesh armoured jacket but they haven't arrived yet.

As the past recipient of a LOT of skingrafts, all I can say is
'yikes'

(Never had 'em? you don't want 'em. Donor site hurts as much as the damaged site. In retrospect, it wasn't even worth the courtship with lady morphine.)

Before my accident, I would have considered riding in shorts. After my accident...it just ain't gonna happen! The road rash I got through my jeans was bad enough that I won't ever consider riding with just shorts and it will be a loooong time before I consider riding without a jacket again.

Before my accident . . . . . After my accident...

amazing how our opinions change instantly, isn't it? even tho i've seen the results of accidents on others, and even tho i'm fully aware of what could happen in an accident, never really thought it applied to me till my accident . .

went and ordered a mesh armored jacket today . . just dont quite feel safe riding without something covering my arms anymore . .

Yep! I knew that it was a risk not wearing full protective gear before that particular experience, but there's nothing like pain to drive home the point! Not to say that I thought very often about not wearing half-way decent gear, but I was far less leary of just a t-shirt and jeans. That was also the accident which convinced me to always wear a full face helmet instead of a 3/4 helmet...a fractured tooth and nerve damage to my chin that is only now starting to go away will do that.

Here is a pic of some road rash, it's not gory, the girl is healing up just fine, but pics like this is what keeps me wearing my gear. For me, if it's too hot to wear gear, it's too hot to ride.
