Thank you all for the nice welcome. Not taking a rider course yet but will soon. I got to ride my bike a little in between rain. So far about 3hrs total. Of course 2hrs was in a parking lot. Listen,is there anything that can be done to make the shifter easier to get to? It sure is hard to get my toes under it? Will I just get used to it?

Welcome teesee.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will answer your shifter question but I'm fairly certain the answer is yes.

The shifter is on a spline and it's position, like hands on a clock, can be adjusted. I had the same problem you are describing, and rotated mine as shown below. If you have a new bike, the dealer should do that for you (just check to see that it's free, first; it isn't hard to do).

You also need to adjust the point of attachment to the transmission, also, to keep the connecting rod nearly vertical as indicated by the red arrow.

Hey teesee!

I have a 450 and this is how mine works, don't know about the new 250's but assume it is the same.

The shifter rod coming from the shifter to the gearbox is usually threaded and have a nut on either side of the rod. Loosen the nuts and turn the rod to make the shifter "taller". The rod is threaded on either end and the threads are opposite each other so when you turn the rod it will either push out or pull in on each end at the same time. Get it to a height of your liking and tighten the nuts back to keep in place.

Hope this helps!

Just make sure to run it up and down through the gears a couple of times to make sure it shifts smoothly. If you adjust that rod too far it won't shift properly (DAMHIKT).
