I have a 1986 Rebel 450 I think it is an awesome bike! But I have an issue I’m having problems with people herring me when I ride, you know those people that change lanes with out looking. Does anyone have any ideas how I can make my bike louder?

seeing you is more important than hearing you, maybe a yellow helmet ? those stupid people have their radio up loud anyway.

avoid their blind spots

what I mean is like, you dont see them change lanes into cars, and cars dont make alotta noise, but when they change lanes, they look, and then turn.

motorcycle so small, sometimes they dont see you, so high visibility is more important, and a loud a$$ed horn helps.

Welcome jetpack.......

As miscusi mentioned, being more visible is a definite plus.

But a little extra sound can't hurt either. I cut the mufflers off the 450, installed EMGO 12" Shorties, kept the airbox stock (so far) & didn't have to re-jet. Doesn't sound like a "Harley", but it "is" louder & I much prefer 'em.

One of my ridin' buds said it sounds like a Cesna while sharing a lane, LOL!

I wear an ICON vest in that hi-viz puke color.
And a white full face helmet.
I swear one of these days I am gonna glue some red clown hair on my helmet and a big ole clown nose - anything to be seen!!!

but honestly, my reb is black, my joe rocket steel jeans is black, my first gear Vtecmesh jacket is all black, my helmet is black full face.

Yesterday night I rode home feeling SO UNSAFE !

I ordered a yellow striped jacket immediately. and I will get one of those constructoin orange vest and stick it somewhere, and to the bicycle shop for some 3M stickers that reflect a whole lot for the hemlet...

I cant get loud pipes, I park on a residentual street, where I come and go all hours of the night, the last thing I need is for the people of that street to trash my bike when I'm not around you know ? Plus I think is rude to make so much noise at night when people are trying to sleep... well, no, its the fear of trashing ! :P :P

ut-oh........It's the ol' Fenway-Yankee Stadium feud, ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!

Been to Fenway Park way back before "The Rooster" messed up his shoulder. Man, he used to throw friggin' ROCKETS from short-stop!

Never been to Yankee Stadium. Heard stories of some fans getting tossed off the 3rd tier of bleachers. Decided to pass, LOL!

So, ya wanna be heard?
Best bang for the buck is a VERY loud horn. Something off an 18 wheeler will do fine. Amazing how even an SUV driver will straighten up and fly right when he thinks he almost cut off a Kenworth. Makes 'em swallow their cellphone, drop their coffee, and smear their lipstick.

Truth be told, though, as stated above, being VISIBLE is the key. Next to that, your best defense is to anticipate who will do what (just assume everyone else on the road has had a frontal lobotomy, or a bottle in front of me, whichever) and stay out of people's blind spots. I think the Clown head might be the best bet. They'll think its Pennywise the Clown coming after them....

Someone remind me to take pictures of my "purple hair" helmet, I also have a green mohawk helmet, but it is out on loan at the moment.
