Hi, I'm Danny. My story begins last year in may when I took the MSF basic rider course and got my license. I learned on a 125 cc dirt bike looking thing with a kick start, I have to say when that was over my leg was sore from all that kicking !
I always wanted a motorcycle, after riding on the back in third world countries. Funny how a bike here in the USA is Sooooo Cooolll and bad and out law and tough guy and etc.. meanwhile in the poor countries it is the common everyday means of transportation.
So This year I decided to get a bike, and due to budget reasons I picked up a 85 rebel 250 for what seemed like a good price at the time, seeing how it is the beginning of the season.
I guess I should have known, anything 21 years old will need a fixin. Things gone south right away including.. too much oil, dented brake rotor, loose exhaust at the cylinder head, start button problem, loose battery connection problem, Seat foam problem, chain not in adjustment, brake fluid old, tire dry rot, battery old as heck, brake pads needs replacing, bolt broke off, and etc etc etc
something new every three days.
Next time I will save up more and buy something more recent, maybe a 01 to 04 and something more powerful and beefier,
I have my eyes set on a VLX 600, I guess that is the natural progression.
But I will fix up my rebel, little by little and ride it this season. and if I think I need better skills, I might ride it for another season before moving up to bigger.
Accidents:
Manhattan is NOT the ideal place to ride, I almost fell 3 times and actually fell once.
1 - front wheel ran over a soda bottle while braking, thus locked front brake and almost fell. had leg out and supported the bike.
2 - starting from parked, I got on, rolled on the throttle to turn into traffic, engine bogged and lost power, bike nearly hit the ground, I had the leg out and supported the bike.
3 - First time two-up, ( is that the proper term ? ) had my friend liz on the back, tried to turn into traffic from being parked, but went wide, real wide, nearly hit parked cars on the other side of the street
1 First moving fall: Going down 31st street, wasnt paying attention, was early and I just woke up, kind of groggy too... My mind drifted away while I was looking at the rear view mirror and then the taxi cab Short-braked and I was looking right in the back of the taxi, I grabbed the brakes and just so happens the manhole cover was there, ( soda bottle effect ) locked my front wheel and I went down. scraped an elbow.
Now, I did own a jacket, but I sent it back to the store to exchange for a smaller size. I bet if I was wearing the jacket, My elbow would have been fine. I was however, wearing joe rocket's steel jeans.
Now that I got the accident out of the way, I can concentrate on wrenching it back to specs and riding without fear of that saying about how there are two people , one that is about to go down, and those who been down.. hehehe..
ride safe all.
