Hi. Just arrived from the 'other side'. For those who don't know me, I live in New Brunswick Canada, have been riding since 1968, married to a woman I met on bikes who also has been riding since '68, and that's why I'm here. A couple of years ago, she 'traded down' to an '86 450 rebel and absolutely loves it.
Since I'm the chief wrench and bike washer, I'm the one who will spend all the time here, to learn from the collective wisdom.
When I was 17, I had the 'good fortune' of buying my third bike, a '65 Norton Atlas that threw a connecting rod two weeks after I bought it, and I've been interested in motorcycle repair since.
We have a garage full of bikes, all old Hondas. My son rides, too, and right now is running our '79 CX500 Custom, as a favour to me, since it gets very neglected. We've had singles, vertical twins, v-twins, v-fours, inline fours. Hondas, suzukis, yamahas, kawasakis, and nortons. Hondas are by far my favourite, and I've been a big fan of the 400/450 CB engine for a long time.
Thanks for letting me in.
And gearjammer: long time, no hear. What's new?
Brent

Hey Brent! Yes, it has been a long time. GREAT to see ya here!
Same old, same old here. Wrenching & riding, heavy on the wrenching at present with a newly acquired chopped Trumpet I'm trying to sort out. How's 'bout you ?
Hi Brent,
I'm glad you're here so I can say "thank you". Right before the other forum went down you gave me some advice about my take offs. You mentioned that I needed to tilt my wrist differently on the throttle. I told my hubby and he said "Yea - I didn't realize you weren't doing that." Anyway I tried the different wrist position the other night and WOW what a difference it made, not only on my take offs but even during the rest of the ride. Again, thanks!
LOL - of course I should have waited to attempt the change AFTER I had made the left hand turn out of my driveway. The bike took off way faster than I was expecting and for a few seconds it wasn't pretty.

Well, thanks, all, for the warm welcome.
Gearjammer: About the same. Had a couple of VT500 C shadows in the garage for repair for a few weeks; one belonged to my boss's husband. Poor fellow had spent about $1800 on repairs/carb cleanings/electrical part replacements at three different bike shops in an attempt to get it running. I said I'd take a look before he scrapped it, but rreally, I wanted to size it up as a parts bike for the other Shadow I was working on for a friend..
Well, turns out it needed new coils ($20 off ebay) and the paper oil filter was choked with oil ($20 from the dealer). Believe me, I just got lucky, cause I would never have thought to look at an airfilter that had been replaced 200 miles ago, but the plugs were so darn rich looking, and I knew the carbs were good (he had them done THREE times!!) Cost him $40 and a 40 pounder of Crown Royal. Expecting a good performance review from his wife this year.
ANyway, back at 'er/

Brent, Sorry to hear about your bosses friend laying out so much $$$ thru THREE different shops ? Man, for $1800, he could have bought a 1/2 way decent runner. They obviously brought it to the right wrench finally!
For the money they could have bought a rebel  8)
