How do you get the plastic panel off? The one with the turn signal lights, ignition, OD, etc???? I bought a new turn signal and it looks like I need to get in there to hook up the wiring.

Also, is there any special way to get the cotter pins off and on when replacing the foot pegs? I bought a set of floorboards from Jacks and I want to replace my pegs with them.

Unfortunately I don't have a Clymer and I'm not the greatest mechanic!

Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

No ideas on the dash.

For the cotter pins just straighten out the bent legs and pull on the loop. To install just push the legs through the hole until the loop is against the hole then bend the legs over opposite each other.
You may have to get new ones, any auto parts store can supply them. Just remember to take the old ones for size.

Welcome, Megan......Is this a 450 Reb ? There should be 2 bolts near the top of the panel that mount to the speedo bracket. Remove those & the panel should just lift up & off. (Going from memory here as the Rebel is still in the shed since the CDI went south)

Thanks all! Yep it is a 450. So the bolts by the speedo, eh. Never would have thought. Hopefully it is pretty simple. I'm actually just considering splicing the wiring sealing them with those heat shrink sleeves.

As for the pegs...well I will be lucky if the cotters come off in one peice. They are pretty rusty! I am going to try and complete this project tonight. Last night I basically washed by bike with a toothbrush! I'm trying to clean it up a bit...detail.

Again...thanks all!
(I'm new here but was on the Rebel (surfmaine) forum for more than a year.)

Splicing & heat shrink tubing could do the job, but you might also be able to get the right sized bullet connectors for a cleaner, more secure connection.

Yep, once those 2 bolts are removed near the top of the panel, you'll see that it can be lifted up giving better access to the wiring underneath. Again, going from memory, but you may or may not have to lift the speedo bracket to allow removal of the panel ? I'm sure you'll see what's involved when you check it out. Pretty straightforward........

I have to say that the floorboards are marvelous! They are so comfortable it is crazy! I love them!

Thanks so much everyone!

Also: I did end up getting the cover off and running the wiring as a whole and not splicing it. Altogether it took me less than an hour to put both boards on and the left turn signal light.
