Miss Dottie wanted more carrying capabilities on her bike but was not happy with the saddlebags we checked. I suggested a sissybar and rack. She did not like the short bars that are normally on Rebels. I shopped around and found the parts needed for this mod.
First was the sissybar from JC Whitney. It is the 18 inch version.
Mounts were a real pain, they are very hard to find for the Rebel. I was going to make my own but the compound bend (joggle) was beyond the limits of my small shop. Mean Cycles had a mount that looked right so I took a chance and ordered one. The rack is from Jacks Rebel Salvage. (Shameless plug... Great service and the fastest shipping of the bunch.)
The lights were obtained from Advance Auto (Autozone and Carquest carry the same parts)
I mounted the sissybar first to get the angle right. I did have to drill a set of holes for this bar, if you use theirs you wouldn't.

Next came the rack, it was a tight squeeze but everything fits and I used the stock bolts on the mounts.

On to the lights. This was the most time consuming part of the mod. I fabricated a plate from stainless steel to mount them. Two, three LED clearance lights and a license plate light to replace the reflectors above the plate.

I used liquid electrical tape to weather seal the connections.

It bolts right where the original license plate light went.

All of the connections were done under the fender, It is a rats nest of wires and very tight. I used stock type connectors, none of the stock wiring was cut. Everything is sealed with the liquid electrical tape.

This shows the running lights and reflective tape on the sissybar pad. If you look close you can see the LED license plate bolts too.

And with the brakes on.

Dottie is really pleased with the "chopper" look.

This is with her back pack on the bar.

Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did doing the mods.
