Hello all,
I just purchased a 2002 Rebel 250 in pristine condition. It actually was owned by a 74 year old man who never rode over 35 mph. It's pretty carboned up but I'm going to blow it out as soon as I get the reg, insurance, and a skid lid.
I've been riding off and on for 40 years, having owned a Harley 45, a Triumph TR6 650, a Yamaha 400, and now the Rebel. My wife says I look like a Hippo on a rollerskate, but she's been known to exaggerate.
I'll be popping in regularly to see what's happening. If you are in Eastern New Mexico, drop me a line.

Welcome aboard, enmumick! Good score on the Rebel & I'm sure it's in capable hands.

What year was your Triumph ? I've got 2 TR6's.....'70 & '68, both chopped. Ride, wrench, ride, wrench.....you probably remember that score, LOL!

hehehe.......Good point, Howard. It's a matter of proper sequence: Ride, wrench or wrench, ride.

But either way, one of the pre-ride gigs is wiping off the oil from the previous ride, LMAO! I literally have a stack of jeans to use for "Trumpet only". With the Rebel, I could wear all white clothing & it'd still be clean once the ride was done. Which Triumph did you have ?

Hey enmumick,
I thought the wind blew too hard out there in Portales to ride a motorcyle. I went to enema U back in the 70's. That's where I originally learned to ride a bike. Use to chase jack rabbits at Jack County Lake on my dirt bike and ride out to Oasis park and mess around. I had a sign shop across the street from Surplus City for a while. Anyway welcome to the forum and hope you get that Reb to running good. :D

Since ya'll brought up the old triumphs, anybody got any thoughts on the new ones? The new America cruiser is really a sharp ride.

I rode a '59 Triumph TR6 back in the 60's (telling how old I am). I enjoyed the heck out of it.
I want a Triumph Bonneville America pretty bad. I love the styling, the sound and the mystique. What I don't like is the $10K pricetag.
I like the Rebel though. 60MPG vs. 16MPG, well.... Duh! It's a no brainer.

Welcome enmumick,

Miss Dottie and I hope to relocate to the Roswell area in the next few years. Most of her family lives there. Its been about 16 years but I seem to remember the wind was always blowing when we were there. We lived in Az for ten years and really miss the desert.

Hey Matt,

I know three people with new Triumphs.

1. America, solid bike he has added pipes and a jet kit. Puts about 75 hp to the wheel. Very nice bike.

2. Tiger, another solid performer, stone stock will run with any other bike.

3. Rocket III, Unlike any other bike except the Boss Hoss. He has bags and a car tire on it. Depending where you sit it either (over the tank) smokes the tire or (back in the seat) pulls the front tire on a 70 mph downshift to pass. It is a monster. He only uses it for trips, his daily is a KLR-650.

Talking with all three owners they are very pleased with the bikes and support. The America owner had a question when he was adjusting the valves. He called the 800 number in his owners manual, England on the other end explaining what he needed to do. They even called him back later to see if all went well  .

enmumick, So you had a pre-unit ('59) ? Those pre-units look sharp as can be.

(Not to take anything away from the Rebel), but the new Triumphs have an excellent rep! As Dan mentioned, very good quality, classy looks & actually quite price-competitive.

The Rocket III SHATTERED just about every record in numerous categories. An astonishing motorcycle! 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. "Rocket" is a fitting name for it.

Another pre-unit  I'm not as familiar with the 500's or the pre-units in general, but know that the T110 designation was in reference to speculated top mph.........T100 = 100 mph, T110 = 110 mph, etc.

Very sweet looking motors tho' with the divorced gearbox seperate from the crankcase.

Hey ddouble,
Yeah, the wind still blows. The summer storms are fierce. It's doing both out there right now.
I'm retired Air Force and we got word yesterday that Cannon AFB has been resurrected and given a new lease on life. Whoo Hoo!!!

If you get back here, drop a line and we'll meet.

Ride safe....

I remember a couple of thunderstorms in Roswell that had me wondering if we weren't closer to the clouds than everyone else  . Hooking up would be cool.
Retired Marine here. I have a background in airframes (AV8/A,C,B). I'm doing contract work on Cherry Point now. Maybe my company has a contract there... I'll have to check on that.
