Big title for a few riders. Everyone welcome.
We will be leaving Simi Valley at 9:00 Saturday July 22.
Destination: Solvang
Route: All surface streets, highways and back roads. No freeways.
The point is not to get there fast; it is to have a good route.
Simi Valley to Ventura via the 118. (This is one lane highway, not freeway like the San Fernando Valley.
We go through Ventura on Foothill. Light traffic (very light). Stop signs but no stop lights.
We pass under the Hwy 33, go thru Foster Park, and around Lake Casitas.
Surface streets and back roads past Carpinteria and thru Santa Barbara.
Up the San Marcos Pass and on the Solvang.
I will post maps later.
I still have to pick a couple of spots for butt breaks.
As you can tell from the route, this is not a short ride. I'm estimating 3-4 hours to get to Solvang.
We'll have some coffee and danish and then decide how long to stay.
So who all is going to come?

first of all, thanks to all for having us in.

now on this ride, gary has put a lot of work into figuring out this route (just like he did last year -- hey, who better than our resident engineer for this duty).

and last year on the other board i remember a lot of people came forward after the ride -- when we posted pictures and such of our angeles crest highway ride (glendale to wrighwood) - to say they wish they knew about it and wanted to do the next one.

well, we only do this one time a year and this is the time, so we hope we can get a good turn-out.

as gary said, all bikes are welcome -- i've invited three harley buddies and one sportbike former neighbor. of course, you never know if they will show up.

but this is the one ride i look forward to each year because it is ours.

so i hope a lot of you will come out and bring your friends.

You're welcome to ride as far as you want. But I would suggest you go as far as Lakes Casitas. It's only a little further than Ventura.

casitas! well, better than nothing but you are going to miss that whole group joining us in santa barbara.

one more thing, nu -- if it helps, i'm planning on coming straight back by freeway to cut the time down on the return.

gary, were you planning on re-tracing the route back or going back by freeway?

I'm probably going to retrace the route.

The 2006 Southern California Rebel Ride is next Saturday.
We will leave Simi Valley at 9:00 a.m. from the Chevron station at the corner of Erringer and Cochran. (use the Erringer exit from the 118)

We expect to get to Santa Barbara about noon and will pick up a couple more riders. Our meeting point will be the Carl's Jr. at 3925 State Street. We will refuel nearby.

Then it's on to Solvang.

It will probably be very warm so bring water.
Also bring and use sunscreen. Don't forget the back of your hands. But do not put it on your forehead unless you know it will not run into your eyes.

At Solvang we will have some Danish and sightseeing. Probably we will break up for the trip home. I'm going to retrace the route; others may take the freeway.

Well the 2006 Southern California Rebel Ride went off without a hitch. Some of the riders who were going to join us were unable to for various reasons from cold, minor accident and unexpectedly out of town. But we had a great ride.

Our first stop was in Ventura. Just a little time to stretch. You can't see it in the background but that is the ocean. That's Nubiker's 250 on the left. A gorgeous orange that just doesn't show well in the photos.

We then rode on through Ventura and crossed the Ventura River. This shot was from my previous trip checking the route.

From there we rode past Lake Casitas. A rider on a BMW stopped at the same time and was gracious to volunteer to take a pictutre of the whole group.

We saw a helicopter parked down the road and wondered why. There was a fire station there. It was probably search abd rescue.

We rode on to Santa Barbara and passed a Nighthawk for sale. Dragonrider joined us for lunch at Carl's Jr. and took a picture of the group afterwards. This is the best picture of Nubiker's orange Rebel.

Note that Jeff has a few bad habits. No face shield and no jacket. (Rebecca hadn't put hers on yet.)

We said goodbye to Nubiker and Dragonrider and continued on our way.
After leaving Santa Barbara we went up the San Marcos Pass. We took a detour on Stagecoach Rd. passing the Cold Creek Tavern and going under this bridge. If we had stayed on the main road we would have been on the bridge. At the time it was built this was one of the longest steel arch bridges in the U.S. Before it was built, the road to the right was the raod through the pass.

From there on to Solvang it was hot like a blast furnace.

Great ride even with the heat.
