Hi, my name is herbie... i am 61 years old and i am from new orleans. i just bought a used 2005 rebel. i didn't know how to ride a motor cycle but always wanted to learn......i am living in a fix-up house while i rebuild my gutted out home from the hurricane. it has been so mentally and physically stressful that i decided to use the cycle to unwind, at least till everything gets back to normal down here.....i find that due to my small height (5' 6") the rebel fits me great and i am enjoying it very much....looks like i might get hooked on this little machine.......anyway thats my story for now......

Welcome Herbie........
You're got my sincerest good will in light of the losses sufferred in New Orleans & other places along the Gulf Coast. I'd spoken first-hand with some folks who stayed with my bud further north during the Hurricane as well as during the aftermath. Much more devastation than the media or the gov't will ever divulge
Congrats on your new Rebel tho'! You've already discovered the Spiritual renewal that riding can offer. It's downright therapeutic!
Ride Safe.........

Thanks Guy,
i'm just taking one day at a time....
and you are right...the devistation is so much more than the nation knows....i estimate 85 to 90% of the folks living from the west louisiana coast to nearly mobile, ala. are seriously affected....

One day at a time is the way to go, my Friend.
When I spoke with one woman in particular shortly after the Hurricane, it was abundantly clear that those who weren't there couldn't fathom the amount of trauma suffferred by those victimized by what happened there.
You'll be just fine in the course of time. As with any trauma, the memories may never go away, but aiming for a state of mind that allows you some clarity & peace are GOOD things & you WILL arrive there.
Ride Safe.......

I remember a quote from another forum, not my original:
You never see a motorcycle parked in front of a psychiatrist's office.
Best wishes to you folks on the gulf coast.

There's another similar saying: "Some people see therapists, I ride a motorcycle"......
Dang. I thought Herbie in LA meant you lived in Los Angeles.
In Maine, the LA area is the Lewiston/Auburn area 8)
Welcome Herbie!

Lower Alabama! i've heard of los angles but never lower Alabama....Where im from LA is Louisiana. My son had to move his business from here to Columbus, Ga. I am through Mobile just about once a month...from there we head straight up 65 to Montgomery and then east on 85 to Opelika, and then into Phenix city and Columbus......We evacuated to Columbus for one month in September and i sware, the people through middle Ala. and Ga. are the best in the world..... The memories of how me and my family were treated and accepted there is an impression that i will Never forget......
