howdy all!

well i made my first couple of posts in a few other sections here . . . but i figured i'd make a more formal introduction here in the "introductions"! ;)

HI, my name is Deanna and i ride a Rebel . . .

i'm loving it. totally and completely. 900 miles in three weeks. (unfortunately, i've been off my bike this past week due to a "rounding the curve, hitting a sewer cover, up and over the curb incident that i put myself in on sunday . . *sigh* . . xray showed no fractures, but i took 5 stitches just below my knee . . and i've been entertained thru the week at the every changing brusies on my knee and thigh and shin and ankle . . )

ANYWAY . . . i'm anxious to get back on my bike and back to riding . . hope to not be down for too long . . have to have my honda guy set the bikes front end straight first . . oh, and yeah, there's that whole healing of the knee thing i have to wait for too . . . but once my bike is aligned and my knee is aligned and the stars are aligned, ( ;) ) i'll be back to tooling around on my rebel!!

sooooooo was wondering . . how many of y'all are from michigan?

i searched thru the member list and found 4 (maybe 5?) that have actually listed thier locations . . . any more lurkers/hiders/shy rebel riders in michigan? :)

I managed to stay away for about 30+ years and then about a year ago a buddy dropped off an old Trail 90 and then I got another one. Then I had to have something bigger, the Reb, and now I want a 600-800cc.. Oh Nooooo! I'm not addicted..?

Hi, my name is Jim and I ride a Rebel...

oh yes, there was quite a bit of cursing going on that day, to be sure!!

"a might bit" for sure . . i took my MSF in may, the 2nd thru the 18th, passed my test and went the next day to get my endorsement, and on Saturday i went out for my first ride on the street!! (would have ridden on that Friday but it rained all day ;) ) Thought i'd just go for a spin around the block and ended up riding all the way down to my folks then my honda dealer and back home . . 36 miles all the way around . . :) and that was it . . started riding every day to work and back and every where in between that i went by myself, did a few (3 or 4) 100 mile day trips with some friends the next few weekends and just random rides to no where whenever i felt like it . . . till last sunday . . . :(

but i'll be back . . . as soon as possible!!! :)

man, i cant wait to be riding again!

I too didn't ride for 30+ years but I guess unless you stay totally away from these things you will sooner or later get drawn back in. At first I just looked, and then I just couldn't help myself, I went and sat on one. It all came back, my head spun and next thing I knew I had one and now the other day I found my self "just looking at touring bikes". I never would have thought I would ever need more than just the Rebel but now.....

Hi, my name is George and I ride a Rebel.

hey! glad to see you also made the move over!

and yes, i will be very kind to the knee . . as of yet, i wouldnt even consider even SITTING on my bike . . my knee is still so swollen, and with those wide covers on the 06 models, well let's just say OUCH! that's exactly where those would dig in . . right on my puffy knee . . so i've left the cover on my bike as not to even be tempted ;)

but dang, paitence is not my strong suit ;)

well i had my bike looked at last night . . my honda guy came to the house with tools in hand and looked and tweaked and loosened and tweaked and tightened and tweaked . . till the front end was as straight as the day i bought it . . . funny thing was, i alway had trouble getting my right mirror exactly where i wanted it . . till now . . now it's perfect! lol . . did not mess with straightening the speedo bracket just yet . . it's purely cosmetic and would mean taking if off, letting him bring it to the shop to fix it . . which meant i couldnt ride till he could bring it back . . and i plan on riding tonight . . so i'll save that for another day . . and i decided to leave the little ding in the tank . . for a reminder/remembrance :)

but last night was the first night since my accident that i even sat on my bike . . gotta tell ya . . felt good to be in the saddle again! knee felt pretty good in the position i have to be in to ride and hit the brakes . . so i'm gonna take a little spin around town after work tonight see how it really feels riding . . and then i'll be good to go!

Slow and steady is the way to go, you'll be back to 100% soon.

I would caution you to "wait a little longer until your knee is all better," but I couldn't wait either when I was in your shoes! I rode mine to the shop (only after pouting heavily and against my husband's better judgement I might add) to get her straigtened out...it was a rough ride since the bike wasn't up to snuff and I wasn't quite up to snuff yet either. Just be careful and allow yourself lots of extra time/space on the road. And take it easy for a while yet (BTW, are those stitches out yet?).

luckily, my honda guy came to my house to straighten the bike out (helps that i've known my honda guy for some 20 years before he was my honda guy ;) )

i'll keep my ride close to home and short tonight . . just want to see how i feel . .

and yes, the stitches are out . . i pulled them out myself on sunday . . actually sat and untied the knots then just pulled them right out! wasnt the first time i played doctor to my own stitches . . hopefully it will be my last!

That's the spirit! Just please continue to go at your own pace. Some injuries require whatever time to heal & serious ones can show themselves again later in life, but didn't see any mention of any fractures, so you may be pretty good to go!

nope, no fractures . . . had xrays done just to be sure . . . :)

still kinda swollen tho . . . but's more annoying than painful at this point . . so while i may do a few short little 10-15 miles trips, i wont be doing any major riding for a while . . .

How far did you say it was to your work? Is that a "short trip"?

Curious minds .....

well my daily commute is about 12 miles one way . . . BUT i didnt ride in to work today . . . it's been POURING over here since i got up this morning . . . figures . . .

ya know, i just realized, that in all these posts and replies . . . no one has answered my question . . . dag gone michiganders ;)

imarebelrider

so i went to the doctors today . . to have my knee looked at . . had a lot of fluid built up in there and it wasnt going away . .

the doctor walked in, took one look at my knee and said "yep, we're sticking a needle in that one!" . . . whoa boy!

and that he did . . took 60cc's of fluid into a 70cc syringe . . and almost instantly i felt nearly 100% better . .

so i now have the official go-ahead from the doc to go ahead and ride! so long as i feel like i can, well then i can!

interestingly enough, he's had an unusual amount of motorcycle riders coming thru his doors this year . . the interesting part being that not a single of of his patients were in becuase of a collision or traffic incident . . the doc tells me that every single rider thats been in his office this year, has been bitten by the pavement . . . gravel, debris, grooves . . . kinda wieird, huh? or maybe not . . . ??

anyway . . . i'm clear to ride seeing as riding does not involve any strenuous activity like walking, running, treadmills, cycles, stairs . . so while i cant do any of those (well i'm allowed to walk, just nothing extensive) . . i can ride!

Dang, Deanna......Didn't realize that your knee had been swollen to the size of a golfball! Glad that you had it checked out & it's great that the doc gave you the green light to ride

Not to be the harbinger of gloom 'n doom, but I can understand why most of the doc's patients hadn't been there due to collision or traffic incident. Without seeing the actual stats, I'll wager that the victims of serious accidents either end up in the Emergency Room, ICU or the morgue. Hopefully, you'll never experience the sight of a serious accident involving a motorcycle, but if you ever see the rider's body covered up on the shoulder of the road or wherever the unfortunate soul landed, it's a very sobering reality.

Again, VERY glad that you're doing much better & please Ride Safe out there.......
