Yep, I followed the crowd over from the "other" site. Good to be here and look forward to building friendships with all my fellow Rebels! I think this site will be even better than the "other" one.

And no more search button police!

again, welcome.

to address the search button issue. here is my take on questions.

there are many different ways to ask and word questions, a thinggy to some is a starter to others etc.

so..... when trying to search for question about why the thinggy dosent work correctly, you wont turn up much, and I will be the first to say that search functions on PHP boards are CRAP.

So chastising someone for asking a question that has been asked a thousand times is quiet the opposite of the forums main intent. Until they ask the question in their words they will not find out that the thinggy in question is actually the starter, and at this point they know what to actually search for.

now granted most people already know starters, coils, rectifiers etc. but to someone excited about buying their first bike and looking for a few quick answers, give them the benefit of the doubt, answer the question again, even if you have answered it a dozen times. Thats what we do here, lets not forget it.

Thanks

Ya mean we don't have to apologize profusely before we ask a question? We don't have to spend hours looking in vain through millions of posts before we leap off the cliff and let 'er fly with a question that most likely has been talked about in the last year or too. Wow, there might be room for some civil conversation. I very seldom joined any conversations on the other forum as I noticed that it would too easily go south. I want to try this out. I have a dumb question. What is the earning points or dollars or whatever when you post? Seems to be a tally posted underneath my username. What's that about? Thanks.

By belittleing others for asking questions you defeat the purpose of a forum. and letting it continue it shows disrespect to those who are looking for answers.

Again anyone who has ever search on a PHP board knows the search function turns up 99% irrelevant thread etc. so feel free to ask away, I always check the first page or two of posts and if I dont see what I need there, then its time to ask.

Thanks

oh yeah, civil conversation, not civil war is the goal. Enjoy.

Uncle George, The Forum $$$'s are earned & accumulated after making a post. The Forum $$$'s can then in return be redeemed as "currency" to purchase some items that cTc has offerred on the site......decals, parts, etc.

There's no "search police", no "grammar police", no "spell-check police"......just good people trying to help & learn from others

That pretty much says it, as long as things are kept clean, we'll make sure and weed out whats not wanted as a measure to keep the site the way it is/was intended.

That is why I was always just a lurker over there...I don't think I ever made a single post. I wasn't sure whether the multiple search result replies were to be helpful, or snotty...so I kept quiet.

I think I'll participate now...

Well, you won't have that problem here. Just check out some of my past postings & you'll see that not once was i ever verbally attacked when i didn't understand something or when i had to ask again to get it clarified. This by far for me has been the best forum i have ever had the pleasure to participate in.

Wow it works! Dumb question answered...I don't feel embarrassed, intimidated or reminded that I have the IQ of a hammer. I even feel as though I can leave the room without bowing or prostrating myself. I hear birds singing, my sense of smell is coming back...ahhhhh :D

I cant stress enough that I think questions are to be addressed, not attacked. People come here to learn and ask their question in their way.

If answering means providing an answer with some helpful links to other threads, thats is ok, but chewing on them and posting links is not quite what the general population is looking for. I can tell you this type antics will not fly on this site, by anyone.

No one should have to tense up when they post a new thread wondering how swift the idiotism will come. Comfortable, easy to deal with and get along with members are what makes a great site, it only takes one to ruin it all.

To Georgia Rebel, Uncle George, Teesee, and Thumper, I can assure you, I've left more forums in the dust than ones I've stayed with. Although I personally don't ride a Rebel (my daughter does), I've found this to be one of the friendliest forums I've ever joined up with. I came here to ask a few questions about the Rebel we put together from a complete mess this winter, and kinda got stuck here! 8)
