We've just purchased a 1986 Rebel 250 for my wife's use. I don't have a manual for it, so I have some basic questions.
1. How do you take off the driver's and passenger's seats?
2. How fast will this bike travel and be comfortable for her to ride any distance?
Thanks

Seat removal: there are two bolts just behind the passenger seat that must be removed first. They hold the seat to the top of the fender. Once the bolts are out, you can pull the passenger seat up and to the rear.
With the passenger seat off, you will see the two bolts that hold the driver's seat to the frame. Remove those bolts and you can pull the driver's seat. Very easy to do.
Based on reports from many Rebel 250 owners, top speed is in the 70-75mph range. People ride the Rebel long distances, but it is not designed as a comfortable touring bike. How far do you intend to ride?
You can purchase owner's manuals and repair manuals at http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r=

Thanks for the information on seat removal. I found the bolts you're talking about for the rear seat.
As to distances, I would imagine a couple hundred miles a day, at about 50-75 at a time. She is still learning, and our stops will be more oriented toward stretching and restrooms than distances, at least for a while.
Thanks again for the seat and manual information.

I bought a 2005 Rebel a few months ago and for the type of riding your talking about the rebel should be perfect. I've got a little over 600 miles on mine and it's been great. It's a very forgiving motorcycle and rider friendly. I'm planning a 5 day 1600 mile trip in may so i'm hopeing to put it through its paces.

There is no question that the Rebel can do what you want. You might consider a windshield and possibly highway pegs to make the ride more comfortable. Good luck and ride safe.

Thanks, Bob. I've installed a wind screen. Crash bars, saddlebag supports, and a luggage rack are on order from Jack's in FL. I'll ask her about the highway pegs once we get the crash bars on.
It's almost warm enough here in E WA for her to begin to practice again, so I would imagine in the next few weeks we'll have a good feel for how she'll do on the bike.
I now have a Clymer manual on the bike. Lots of information in it, including a page on removing the seat.
Thanks again.
