Hi Folks,
After searching the FAQ section, I found the torque values for the rear sprocket but not the front sprocket. The Clymer manual does not list the front specs either.
Does anyone know what the torque spec is for the two small bolts that hold the retainer clip on the front sprocket of the Rebel 250?(1985). Guessing all years are probably the same.
Do not want to do this by feel because I've heard that those little bolts can snap easy. And at the other extreme, if too loose they can fall out and cause the whole sprocket to fall off locking the rear wheel. Probably be a good idea to use blue lock-tite?
Thanks,
Ron
Welcome to the forum. Not sure right off what the torque specs are, but I'll chck into it to see what I can find.

Welcome to the site, Ron....
The Clymer's is good to a fair degree, but obviously lacks info in some areas.
Have you removed the front sprocket already ? If so, this won't work, but if you haven't removed it yet, here's something I sometimes do for bolts where no torque spec can be found. Before removal, I'll put a socket w/torque wrench on the fastener & carefully apply pressure to the torque wrench handle WITHOUT trying to tighten anything, just applying pressure until it gets to the point of where it WOULD begin to tighten if more pressure were applied. STOP RIGHT THERE, LOL!....and take a reading on the torque wrench scale. This would at least give you a ballpark reading to work from.
If you've already removed the front sprocket, you should be able to safely tighten it until reasonably snug & as you've mentioned, the Blue Loctite would probably be an added plus. (I see you're already aware of the effectiveness of Red Loctite, LMAO!)
I seem to find everything but the info about the front sprocket. But the method the GJ mention would be my plan of attack at this point.

Thanks for the advice. I've already got the sprocket off, so it is too late to check what the factory had the torque set at.
A WILD guess is that it took maybe 15 ft lbs., did not see any lock-tite.
No Google hits either on the spec. Guess I will wander in to the Honda dealer and see if they will let me check with the mechanics and their service manual.

Be prepaired for the blank stare :? I'd say the 15lbs guestimate is a good one if you cant find anything.

Honda Dealer Mechanic looked up the front sprocket lock plate bolt torque spec - Not listed in their service manual either.
He guessed about 8 ft/lbs would be close and said to make sure I used blue Lock-tite. Said that is all those little bolts need since they just hold the lock plate in place and are under no real load.

Excellent, Ron & thanx for sharing that info with us. I've edited the thread title to help others see it for future reference.
Thanx again!
