Dropped off the bike today to have the carbs adjusted and tires put on. Because of my schedule, I won't be able to pick her up until April 4th.

I am gonna miss her. It will be weird to go to the shed and not see the bike sitting there. After working on her to get her running and doing the mods, it feels like a part of the family has gone away for a while. But when I do get her back, she will be ready for the road!! :)

I just wish I could have done the work myself, except the tires. But it is cheaper for me to have it done than to buy the tools to do the carbs myself. Got a good deal on the work. A good friend of mine is also good friends with the wrench that is gonna do the work at an Indy shop. Was also in there looking at some of their mechandise and they have pretty good prices also. Might just have to pick up some leather there when I go to get the bike. They have a set of small hard leather saddlebags I might just purchase a little later. Will see how they look on the bike when I pick the bike up. Don't know price yet, didn't ask. But if it is priced like the other merchandise, it probably is reasonable.

Just thought I would share my thoughts. I'm kinda lost right now without the bike LOL!!! Only been an hour since I dropped it off and already have seperation anxiety!!ROTFLMAO!!!!!

Feels like when losing a girlfriend with the only difference being at less you get your bike back. Hang in there man, she'll be back home ready to run up the miles & burn the roads once again.

Thanks for stopping by and cheering me up Chopper Rick!!! I just have to keep telling myself that she misses me as much as I miss her ROTFLMAO!!!!

At least I will be busy during our absence. LOL

It's been 15yrs since I rode her regularly and I am excited to get back in the saddle. I know that these are the last steps to getting her roadworthy. I'm like a kid waiting on Christmas!!

Absolutely! A temporary seperation resulting in some MAJOR trouble-free ridin' is a worthwhile trade-off. Also sounds like you've found a very cool indie shop & those in themselves are always worth their weight in gold. I try to support 'em as much as possible in favor of dealing with most stealerships.

Also sounds like she's in good hands. I'm sure they'll treat her gently, ROTFLMAO!

Hey GJ! How was the ride?!! (I am jealous LOL!!)

I think they will treat her nice.....I will ask her when I get her back. LOL!!! If she purrs like a kitten, I will know they done her right!! ROTFLMAO!!!

Can't wait til I can say (and do) that I am going on an all day ride!!

I know with everyone's support and encouragement I will be able to make through this hard time!

Not sure how the weather is going there, but it's finally turned excellent here. Tons of bikers out today, we put in at least 7 hrs. worth of riding (stopped for lunch, which only accounted for maybe 6 1/2 hrs., ROTFLMAO! Nah... ) Seriously needed to shake the cabin fever of the past couple weeks.

Uphill here from this point & even the cold weather states should be rockin' 'n rollin' in no time now. :D

The weather is pretty nice here also...a little cool but that is what leathers are for!! Went and bought me a new brain bucket today. It's a solid silver half helmet, but I am gonna have my paint guy ghost some rebel flag flames (or ghost a weather worn flying rebel flag) on it when he does the bikes paint.

Agreed on the leathers. Wore the jacket today as it was j-u-s-t breezy enough out on the wide open.

Cool deal on the new skid-lid. Ghost flames are dynamite! For me, it's a toss up between the traditional hot rod style flames from the '50's or ghost flames. (I've got neither tho', LOL! Hand-painted some '70's style trick flames on the fuel cell of the chop. The original pattern was just barely visible when I acquired this tank years ago, so re-did it the same way out of respect for some Old Schooler that I've never met).

Did another 6 hrs. today & hit the open road thru the boonies. I fell back to let the others get some distance between them & me so's I could safely go WOT to see what this Rebel will do. Last time I tried this, got her up to 85 mph before running out of room. This time I held back more & got her up to 97 mph, but she still had more left. Honestly believe she'd peg out at a ton if I had more room (then there's the margin of error for the speedo, but not sure what that figure is)

Interesting enough, with using the highway pegs for the long haul & with the increased vibration at the higher speeds, when I got home, both stock rider's pegs had vibrated out towards the end from the internal peg metal, LMAO! Just pushed 'em back on & they should be fine. Might see if I can put some vintage pegs on there at some point.

I had pushed mine about a year after I got her. 95 was all I wanted, even though she could have gone more....no death wish for me!!! I was on some good smooth asphalt interstate so I had plenty of room. That's when I realized that I AM THE CRUISER TYPE.... ROTFLMAO!!!!! Just ride and take in the sights without them whizzing by!! No hurry to get there, I just want to get there!

Totally in agreement with you, Brother! :D Riding requires 110% level of alertness & defensive riding. When we're riding in the city areas, we're extremely conscious of the inherent dangers at all times (mostly cagers & most of those being snowbirds) & ride accordingly.

Today was an open, straightline desert black-top & I honestly just wanted to give her a go, see what she's got & then return to normal/safe riding styles. She seems able to cruise comfortably between 75-85 mph no problem, tho' after 85 mph I could feel that she was working harder (I wouldn't want to push her that hard regularly, not even close). And even tho' she'll do the 75-85 mph range with relative ease, the speed limits are posted under that & believe me, I can't afford any speeding tickets, so the "run her thru her paces" gigs are rare & carefully chosen, ROTFLMAO!!!

That youngblood that I sold a Triumph chopper project to bought a 600cc Gixxer ? for $300!!! Previous owner, young guy, doesn't know much about bikes, dumped it, causing cosmetic damage to the bike, but he himself got pretty busted up so he just wanted to get rid of the bike. The guy I know has been riding since age 5, has another sports bike & has the CM400. Once he got the GSXR, he was testing it's limits. Before cleaning the carbs, he got it up to 145 mph. Cleaned the carbs, got it up to 160 mph. All of us have been telling him to get it out of his system & then settle down again & he knows our concerns. But he's not inexperienced & had mentioned to me that he's more interested in safe cruising these days...it's just that initial test question of "What will she do" ?
