Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to give a head's up on various errors found in the manuals.

Oil Change Intervals:
Clymer's recommends changing the oil "every 600 miles".
Honda Service Manual recommends changing the oil after the 1st 600 miles (break-in period) then again after the 1st 4000 miles & every 4000 miles thereafter w/oil filter change recommended with every other oil change. (More frequent oil changes at owners' discretion are a definite plus & healthy for the motor).

Valve Clearance Checks:
Clymer's recommends checking valve clearances "every 600 miles".
Honda Service Manual recommends checking valve clearances after the 1st 600 miles (break-in period) then again after the 1st 4000 miles & every 4000 miles thereafter.

Good Idea GJ. I also found some differences for the 450, related to testing the ignition coil. I recieved my 86 CMX450C Honda Service Manual and was browsing through it and noticed these differences. I don't know if they are different for an 87, I would think they are not. :?:

Clymers:
Coil Primary Resistance Value (at terminals on back of coil): 0.10-0.30 ohms
Coil Secondary Resistance Value (with spark plug wires still attached to the coil): 7.4-11.1 k ohms
Coil Secondary Resistance Value (at coil with spark plug wires removed): 3.7-4.5 k ohms
Altenator Exciter Coil: 50-250 ohms
Pulse Generator: 50-170 ohms

1986 Honda CMX450C Service Manual:
Coil Primary Resistance Value (at terminals on back of coil): 0.4-0.6 ohms
Coil Secondary Resistance Value (with spark plug wires still attached to the coil): 15.0-23.0 k ohms
Coil Secondary Resistance Value (at coil with spark plug wires removed): 8.0-10.0 k ohms
Altenator Exciter Coil: 70-100 ohms
Pulse Generator: 90-110 ohms

That was interesting to find especially since I was testing the coil to track down a problem. I was getting the Service Manual readings when I was testing it and only had the Clymers to go by at the time. Good to know that my coil is good according to Honda. Could have cost me some needlessly spent money.

Good catch, Snorey! And very good point about the manual errors possibly leading to needless spending to replace perfectly good components. You'd think that Clymer's would correct & up-grade their subsequent printings.
