Got up at 6:30 a.m. and we headed down to May-hee-ko. Couldn't resist the temptation. Everytime we go down there, the Mexican leather work just blows me away. Got a new pair of riding boots: Asking price, $55, got 'em for $50. A new leather riding vest: Asking price $145, got it for $50!!! The OL did the smart thing & scored a primo bottle of Tequila! LOL! Well...she actually bought a LOT more than I did (women & shopping, whatta trip! )

Wasn't sure what to expect with the new Border security stuff. Turned out to be pretty casual for Americans. No check coming back across the border & a clear wave-thru at the Border Patrol checkpoint up the road a few miles as they could see we were clearly U.S. citizens.

All in all an enjoyable day, but l-o-n-g & I'm dog-a**ed tired, LOL! Can see that you Brothers have been busy today  . Will try to play catch-up "manana", LOL!

Ride Safe...

1-Tequila, 2-Tequila, 3-Tequila, Floor

We spent our summer vacation in mexico this year. Playa Del Carmen, Calica, and Cozumel. It was Ok, but I will be back in the bahamas next year. Caught some good deals based on asking prices, had to have the big purple sumbrero (sp?) with the asking price being $65 couldnt do it. But its amazing what $20 bill will do for negotiation.

We never really found any leather work, but then again we were in the tourist trap section of country.

"1-Tequila, 2-Tequila, 3-Tequila, Floor " ROTFLMAO! Ain't THAT the truth ? hehehe......

You definitely vacationed in some of the better areas, CTC. Those areas as well as Rocky Point, San Carlos, etc. have a lot of dual citizenship folks from the States. The interior of the country (which I've never been to) is supposed to be an entirely different, interesting & for the most part, good experience.

Have only done the border town scene & they depend on the tourist trade for their living. You're absolutely right about the $20 bill, LOL! Before I met the OL, she & her friends were down there & she tried to negotiate a $700 handwoven blanket, but the vendor wouldn't cooperate as low a price as she wanted. She simply walked away & the guy literally ran after her to make the sale. Ended up getting it for $300. Really depends on the season & how good or bad their sales have been, but I'd rarely pay the asking price as they're obviously bumped up.

Saw this red bike across the street & at first glance it looked like a Harley. Later in the day we managed to get back over (just HAD to get a better look  ) & rapped with the owner. It was a 250 Virago! Not sure if it's the wheelbase or what, but I swear it almost looked like an 883. Definitely looks bigger than a 250cc. He had a few custom mods. Nothing extravagant, but it looked sweet & it was good to rap with him. (If I had a few hundred bucks, might have been able to bring it home, LMAO!)

The leather work is truly abundant in the border towns. And enough "Harley Davidson" copyright infringements to make Willie G. have a fit, ROTFLMAO!!! T-shirts, saddlebags, leather jackets, vests, fork bags, riding vests, headwraps, belts...all with the "H-D" logo patches sewn on (except for the T-shirts, which are regular style H-D with "Mexico" on 'em)

I'd like to do the boarder town thing, maybe someday I'll get the chance. The places we visited were way over commercialized and most things were priced way over domestic. My wife looked at an HD braclet identical to one here in town for $70 the guy in the store started at $195 he wet himself when I told him about getting it for $70 here.

I'd like to visit the copper canyone region.

The border town gig is definitely worth a day trip. We'd do it with ya, Brother.

You're right about the prices sometimes being overdone & it's interesting to see the vendors try to figure out what might sell. They were checking out my rings (skulls, LOTS of 'em, LOL!) & asking me where I got 'em. A lot of their business is biker-oriented, but just like you mentioned, one vendor was selling leather headwraps & he wouldn't budge on the price. Told him that I could get them for less in the States, why would one want to come all the way down there & pay more ?

Copper Canyon ? Have heard of it, but will have to ask the OL about it as she's more familiar with Mexico than I am.

The "Harley" stuff is flat-out overkill, which shows that they're not staying in touch with the changes up here & how people are starting to gravitate away from the Harley mystique. Constantly trying to sell me Harley this & that & surprised when I tell them that I don't ride Harley anymore, LMAO!

CTC, I asked the OL about Copper Canyon. She's been there & said that it's even larger (or at least deeper) than the Grand Canyon. Another riding Bro had mentioned it also during New Year's. Sounds pretty cool!

Edit: Just remembered...she also said that she saw a program where Jesse James & Kid Rock went on a run into Mexico & that Copper Canyon was where they had gone.

Pretty cool, I'd like to see that with JJ & Kid.

Have always heard of the copper they produce there, and thought it would be a cool place to go.

"Let's Make A Deal".......hehehe....

I missed the "Indian Larry" Tribute installment where his friends built the Tribute bike & the program had clips of "Indian Larry" throughout.

If you see that installment listed to be aired again, please let me know & I'll do the same for you if I see the JJ & Kid Rock program being aired again. Deal ? ROTFLMAO! :D

Serious tho', I REALLY wanted to see that "Indian Larry" Tribute. Man, I'm still hoping that someone does an autobiography on DVD for him. He's still missed by many & always will be...

Far out & that would be very much appreciated, Brother! But I also understand how some lent items never seem to find their way home, LOL! If it doesn't show up, the program will more than likely be re-run, especially considering that there's no doubt great demand for it.

Thanx again & will see how it goes

Howard, You go to the interior of the country, right ? I've never been past the border towns, but the OL has done the interior vacations & loved it!

We just hit the border town again this past weekend. They must be hurting, 'cause they've come down on some prices.

Coming back thru Customs, the friggin' line was about 1 1/2 blocks long! First time I've ever seen that kind of delay. Maybe they had some type of incident up front or whatever.

Might be heading back down again in April. Told my Bro that since he & I don't need to buy anything down there, we can park our butts in a cantina while the OL's go shopping, LMAO!

Thanks cTc: Real De catorce is an old mineing town down in central Mexico at 9600 ft up in mountains, you have to go through a 1 1/4 mile tunnel to get to the town. The hotel shown in the pic. is where we stayed, it's the same one shown in the movie "The Mexican" with Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. If anyone would like to find out more about the town just google it or if anyone would like to see more of my pics. of this trip let me know. Just like J.J. and Kid Rock in Mexico, mine was a trip to remember for a life time.

GearJammer: Yes I have been all over Mexico, the central part is VERY beautiful. The border towns are NOT the real Mexico, as far as I'm concerned they are just a place to enter the country and get out as fast as possiable.

BTW I now avoid Mexico City at ALL cost, the cops there are a bunch of out of control jack boot thieves, not so in the rest of the country.

Thanx, Howard...You're right, from what I understand the border towns & the interior are as different as night & day. The OL has done both the Americanized Rocky Point/San Carlos vacations as well as travelled around the interior when she was married & she said the hospitality of the interior is amazingly refreshing :D

Not sure if she's been to Mexico City or not, but she did mention some spooky stories about the "Federales". I've heard some nightmarish accounts of Federales butting heads with American bikers years ago & none of it sounded fun.

Saw a headline this morning but didn't read the actual article. Apparently they just caught some "most wanted refugee" in Mexico. Wonder if that was what was causing the crossing delay at Customs last weekend.

There is no problem at all with the Federales, the problem is with the Mex. city police.

BTW I am in Springdale Ar., my sister is in a nursing home here and is under hospice (sp) care, so I had to make a quick trip up here and don't know when I'll be back home, so I may be out of pocket for a few days.

Very much appreciated, cTc and thanx for remembering also  but Chopper Rick already sent me a copy awhile back. I don't have a DVD player or burner, but was able to watch it on the OL's DVD player & it's an excellent Tribute.

Dang.........still miss him. Always will.

R.I.P. "Indian Larry"

Thanx again, cTc....
