How easy is it to find parts for the 1987 honda rebel? Is it extremely similar to the modern rebel? I may be able to get a fixer-upper for cheap, and this is important to know. Thanks.
I deal with quite a few rebels, and parts are fairly easy to find. I really depends on what you need, some are easier than others.
Still, is the current rebel similar to the rebel from the 80s? A lot of parts for old vehichles exist. I'm just wondering if it is cost-effective to fix one up and use it as a dependable form of transportation.
The `85-`87 do not interchange 100% with the `96-up models, but some parts do. The older ones have a little more power and are not as restricted on the emissions etc as the newer ones. I bought an `87 model back in may for $600.00, spent about $350.00 replaceing some things and putting some new paint on it, then I pin striped it and did my turn signal mod. Had less than $1000.00 in the whole bike, and sold it for $1600.00. It all depends on the bike in question and what it needs as to how rebuildable it is.
The bike in question simply has a problem with the bolts that attach the exhausts to the engine. Other than that, it's been nearly 5 years since the engine has been turned over. God willing, only the basic maintenance stuff will have to be replaced. I'll make sure to post here whenever I need help.
the exhaust flange are brken or stripped? Unfortunatly the only way to really fix it is to replace the cylinder housing, you can try and helicoil the bolts, but this usually leads back to the same problem.
Ow, how much does a cylinder housing run?
I will do a little checking around a see what I can find to give you an idea of cost.

The place to go for Rebel parts and advice on customizing a Rebel is Jack's of Sanford, Florida. He has helped many Rebel owners (I recently needed a lower handlebar holder and worked with Jack directly. When I mentioned that I needed a new headlight bulb he said he would put one in the box at no charge.) You can check out his web site for the products he offers and some of the Rebel trikes he has created.
