We were rapping about sprung solo & solo bucket seats as options in another thread.

Just remembered this very cool "sprung" solo we saw about 4-5 yrs. ago. Out of state pick-up with an older chopped Shovel in the back. Never did get to talk with the owner, but we were admiring his chop.

Instead of the standard solo springs, he had fabbed something out of sheet metal. The solo seat itself was traditional & maybe 9" wide. Not sure what gauge the sheet metal was, but it was nearly as wide as the widest part of the seat, attaching under the seat & to the rigid frame. Between seat & frame, the sheet metal was curved in an S-pattern (looking at it from the side), forming a coil or leaf or whatever type of spring that would be, LOL! Looked VERY trick & functional! Sure wish we'd gotten to talk to him so's he could have told us how he did it.

Are (yes it is my name!)

Sounded cool  ....but with the plate (spring) beeing as wide as 9" would'nt it look a bit...eh wierd? Hell, i dont know, can't really put up an opinion when i've never seen it done before

Here's springer solo for a sportster that can be duplicated by fabbing up one to fit a Rebel.

Thanx for that link on the sprung solo, Chopper Rick. Good to have that kind of info available on site.

Are, The sheet metal "spring" actually fit the chopper very well. Guess you'd have to see it, but even then, there's no guarantee that it'd appeal to you...It's all good.

This OCC bike is definitely bare-bones, but I can't get by that leaf spring on the front. Might come in handy for packing a case of brewskis or for scooping up a lady while still moving, LMAO!

Excellent example of some mods appealling to some but not others & vice versa.

HA HA - Looks like OCC is ripping of my buddy hank young. No surprise.

CTC, You know Hank Young ? Just checked out his website & was quite impressed! Also looked up Russell Mitchell, mentioned by Chopper Rick in another thread. Man, I've been outta the loop for too long, LOL! So many builders out there, can't keep up with 'em.

Recognized Russell Mitchell when I saw the pic. Saw him on that "Build or Bust" show...the show where they give the guests a hard time instead of encouragement, LMAO! This getting old stuff ain't no fun  ...always thought Old School was about helping others, not tearing them down like on the "Build or Bust" show. Think I watched maybe 3 different shows in that series before deciding that it wasn't for me. Heck, "Mikey" of OCC held my attention with his sense of humor for longer than that, LMAO! (Don't watch OCC anymore either tho')

C'mon Springtime! :D

On that OCC leaf spring, realized that Indian used a similar set-up back in the 1930's, then recently found out that H-D used a similar set-up in the 1920's.

Today we rode to this restaurant & there's all this weird ornamentation stuff hanging off the ceiling, the walls, all over the place. Looked up at the ceiling & saw this antique bicycle.

Yep, you guessed it. This old bicycle had a girder type front-end with the same leaf spring on the front. Whatta trip!
