I put a luggage rack on my 250 and am not happy with the visibility of the rear light. This is especially true when I have my cooler on the rack. I drive mostly at night and use my bike to commute.

I added LED license plate bolts and tried to install Optx Xeon Strobes for extra brake lighting. They are not too bright and add just enough to make the car behind you notice. The only problem is that the strobes have burned out twice. Has anyone else tried to increase brake lighting? I appreciate any ideas. In Texas we use an inspection sticker and it is mounted on a plastic frame below the license. Here are a couple of photos of what I have done.

I've got the luggage rack also. If you stand where a car would be, maybe 50-100 feet away you can see the brake light fine. I can't remember what brand bike it was, but the brake light was mounted right under the seat in the wheel well! The bike was one of those crotch rockets.

You could relocate the brake light under the fender like I did on the rebel I built and sold last year.

Its a pretty simple mod.

Think Guba is right; vehicles behind you can see it OK. You can make it brighter with LEDs. Have a selection at superbrightleds.com/tail-brake-turn.html They replace the standard bulbs in your existing lights.

Thanks for the web address, are these lights (LED's) street legal? So far the ones that I've found aren't DOT approved.

I don't know why they wouldn't be. They simply replace your regular light bulbs, but put out more light. You may have noticed that many auto, big truck, and trailer manufacturers have gone to LED lights because they are so much brighter and last longer than standard bulbs. Ditto for traffic signals. A local company sells retrofit LED kits to put on your trailer.

Unless you want to remove the lenses from your lights for a special effect, I would go with white bulbs rather than red or amber. They tend to put out the most lumens per LED.

I fabricated all the pieces of my 20"X16" rear rack from 1" aluminum channel and left them with the welder. Hopefully, it will be ready tomorrow and I can start hauling stuff.
