I finally decided to take pictures (and will post them soon) of the forward controls that I made for my 86 450. It was pretty simple to make. The most major thing I had to do was weld the extended bar for the brake lever and add a piece to extend the shifter lever.
I used 2 pieces of 1/4" X2" stainless flat bar and welded them together to make 1/2" thickness. I turned them up on the end. Then I cut the width down to approx. 7/8" with the end turned to incorporate the 2" width for my angle. Then I just drilled the holes using the stock pegs for templates and countersunk the holes for the boltheads.
Most homemades that I have seen are just straight. It is a total of 7 1/2" extension. Which is great as I am 6'1" and was a tad cramped with the stock positions.
Painted them black for now, will re-sandblast them and probably have them chromed along with the stock brackets. :)
