Changed the oil & oil filter on the 450 today. The oil filter case had been leaking a little oil & wanted to check out the Fram oil filter kit.
The parts sequence for the oil filter (from bottom to top):
Oil filter bolt running thru center of oil filter case
Oil filter case w/gasket
Oil filter bolt O-ring
Metal sealing washer
Spring
Oil filter
What I found when removing the old filter:
Oil filter bolt running thru center of oil filter case
Oil filter case w/gasket (not in bad shape, but replaced it obviously)
Trashed oil filter bolt O-ring
NO metal sealing washer
Oil filter
SPRING in wrong location
Didn't feel like going to the auto parts store to get another metal sealing washer & figured that if she leaked, it'd still be less than before, so just installed the new oil filter without the metal sealing washer. Torqued the oil drain plug & the oil filter case bolt to spec. Fired her up, let her run for 10 minutes, no leakage. Shut her down, came back about 10 minutes later, still no leakage. Looks like the Fram & it's $$$ savings worked out!
