Hello all, i am todd, new to the forum. Ive been looking for a suitable rebel for a month now. My 4x4 5.7 Truck is killing me on gas. Im looking for a rebel 250 that has been converted to a bobber. Ive seen some nice ones on ebay and on craigslist but im not sure if they're worth the price they're advertised as. I had a GSXR-1000 that i just sold. I dont know anything about bikes other than super sports. So i figured you guys could help.

its an '86 rebel 250. Clean title, registered, everything works.
im supposed to go meet up with the guy tomorrow to check it out. Would love to go armed with some information on these bikes, so i dont fall into a trap and end up buying it just because it looks so sick. He's asking 2800 for it. Any advice you guys could give would be great. Just from the pics, im very interested.

I wouldn't pay $500 for that . I just bought a 2007 with 100 miles on it for $2,500 . Be patient and check out your local Craig's list , that's what I did and the guy accepted my offer . There are a lot of these around with low mileage , because people buy them as a beginner bike and then quickly out grow them . Get a nice stock one with low miles and then do what you want to it . I'm new here also , great place with lots of great info .

but how much would it cost to convert a stock one to look like the one above?

Take a hard look at that bike , can you imagine how uncomfortable that thing would be after a half hour ? The stock seat is bad enough , I just took mine to an upholsterer today to have it raised up . I would suggest that he take it for a nice long ride before he decides to buy it . Personally I don't think there is any thing cool about these Rebels , I bought mine to use for errands . To me it's just dirt cheap transportation . But that's just me .

yes of course its for errands, but that doesn't mean you can't make it look at least a little cool. if you have the option of doing so, why the heck not?

Balls , I'm 61 years old , that may explain my opinion ? That said , I bought mine for shopping trips and thats all . What I'm afraid of is that we might get cut off from our imported oil . If all out war breaks out in the middle east , who knows what might happen . I'm doing the mods right now , I'l try to post some pics when it's finished . The Reaper!

I'm moving the shifter & brake around and adding new foot pegs . I am adding an off the shelf trunk and I am having hardware made for saddle bags I'm making . I'm making the saddle bags out of two Tidy Cat kitty litter buckets . I cleaned all the logo crap off them with lacquer thinner , then I painted them with a special black plastic spray paint . They are very heavy plastic and have flip top water tight lids , and did I mention they are FREE ! ?? Between the two buckets and the trunk , I should be able to carry quite a bit of cargo / groceries and ?

Woo-hoo had to laugh on that one, just this afternoon I strapped and old plastic milk crate on the Rebel for a get go at the grocery store.
Be sure to post a pic with those "saddle bags."
