I just bought a 2007 Rebel with 100 miles on it , I got it from a guy who bought it for his girl friend who couldn't handle it . I bought it for economical shopping trips when an automobile wasn't really necessary .

When I road tested it every thing was fine . Now some times when I shift into 3rd or even 4th gear , there is nothing there . I actually have to down shift , and then run it through the gears to complete the shifting through all the gears . I am now also hearing a clattering noise once in awhile at speeds of 25 to 30 MPH . I had a Shadow 750 that also had shifting problems occasionally . Any one else experience this ?

By the way this is my first post on this board . I found it last night doing a Google search . I read a lot of the threads and found them rewarding and interesting . Nice job !

I went to the dealer and talked to the mechanic today . He says that this is common , and said it was because every thing in the clutch department was very tight because it was new . He said not to force it , just rev it up and down shift and try again . He also said it would take about 10,000 miles of break in before it ran properly . Any one else heard this ? Are they pulling my leg just to get rid of me ?

10,000 miles seems a little much for normal clutch break-in. I have a 2008 Rebel about a month old with 500 miles now and everything seems fine. The first scheduled service is at 600 miles per Honda.

Try changing the oil.... That may help relieve your situation.
