Hello all... I just purchased a 1999 Rebel 250 and I had some questions I hope some of you seasoned vets could help me out with.
1.) I noticed on KBB that the mileage for rebels only seems to increase in general about 1500 miles per year. I plan to use this as a commuter bike approx 64 miles per day 5 days a week for gas savings purposes. Can this bike take that kind of mileage and keep kicking?
2.) What's the best clothing for safety yet still being able to stay somewhat cool during these hot months?
3.) I do have a decent amount of bike riding experience, but I have never attempted to get a license. Does anyone know what you generally have to do for the driving part of the exam here in Georgia?
Thanks for all the help!

The rebel will take what ever you can throw at it as a commuter. You should have no worries there.
I usually try to wear jeans in the summer, and I ride in a Tshirt. Some people will wear the light weight biker jackets in the summer time, I just can not get used to it so I choose not to. There are lightweight protective jackets etc. available, and there are places online to find them, but I recommend going to the local bike shop to make sure of the right size, as we all know some biker gear is made as others and sizing can be hit or miss.
I live in georgia, the driving test is simple, you will be tested on brakeing and reaction time, it is nothing to get siked out about, the horror stories I hear are from people who cant listen and take the direction giving by the testing officer. Toccoa georgia gives a good test if you are close enough, I got mine in washington georgia in '94 2 week after graduating high school, bought a VFR 750 on tuesday, took the writin test on wednsday and got my permit, took the riding test on saturday and got my license.
You should do fine

cool thanks for the advice. I just brought the bike home today and took it for a spin around the neighborhood. Handles great and looks like it will be just what I need for the commute I need to make. On the downside though it looks like I'm going to get addicted to bikes.
I live in Locust Grove so I'll be taking the test here. Only thing I need now are a good pair of medium sized saddlebags.

I went with Willy & Max. They have a good selection. Maybe check JC Whitney also.

I wear a mesh jacket with shoulder and elbow pads, an example here:

It is very nice, even at 90+ degrees (I'm in Raleigh, NC). I'm still new to motorcycle riding, so I 'suit' up with all the safety gear. I have a full face helmet (bright yellow and white), mesh gloves, the protective mesh jacket (bright yellow), boots, and I have chaps for when I wear "dressier" pants for work. I commute 50 miles/day and have 3200 miles on my Rebel. I'm getting 66-70MPG, but the only down side is having to fill up every other day (small gas tank)...I don't want to run out of gas, so I try to fill up around ~100 miles of travel.
I got a nices set of TourMaster bags...they hold a good deal of stuff and don't hang too low. I can try to look them up, if you want.
Have fun and drive safe.
