I am new and I just bought a 99 rebel 250 for $600. The bike is a little rusty and Im going to try to bob it in the near future but want to get some other mods out of the way first. I read in some post that someone was getting 90mpg out of there rebel and I was just curious if a airbox removal and cutting your exhaust is the reason for that. WHat can I do to get better mpg?

Also I want to paint my exhaust black and have already bought the 1500 degree paint. I was just curios if I need to paint primer on first or go right to the paint?

I am a new biker and I live in boca raton. Im looking to bob the back fender, custom seat, remove the airbox and install pod, remove battery box and some kind of custom setup for that, possibly cut the pipes ( in that case im guessing I would have to rejet or shime the needle) or at least paint the pipes. If there is any one in the palm beach boca raton area that would like to throw in some expertise I would love to listen. Im in college and just starting out biking so any help is alot of help.

90 mpg is exceptional, 80 mpg is good, 70 mpg is typical, and some of us get only 60 mpg, owing to using too much throttle or carb problems (usually resolved by a good carburetor cleaning).

like jsonder said you can give the carb a real good cleaning but be careful of the diaphram when you put it back together. and as for the paint you can just go ahead and just spray it on there no need for priming.
