View Full Version : No gas past mid-throttle in 4th gear

Hey all,

I need some help with my Honda Rebel 250, it's a 2006. I took it in for a 12,000 mile check and tune up. I also just got my oil changed. There's a new air filter, the spark plugs are fine, and nothing visual looks off.

But when I get up to about 4th gear going about 45mph I can't go faster. This never happened before. The shop could duplicate the problem. A buddy of mine could.

The only thing that I did was go through a heavy rainstorm and the next day when I was trying to go around a van the bike started stuttering and jerking. Now, it doesn't do that anymore; but if I pull back on the throttle to accerlate fast, there's no response.

What my buddy and I think is it could be a carb. problem. But I got them cleaned last year. It could be the main jet, we might have to check the fuel line, but nothing like that seems to be the issue.

The other post that was similar to this was: http://www.hondarebelforum.com/showthread.php?t=1095

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

-Chris

Maybe vapor lock, check the tank vent hose, if not its likely the carb. could be some left over crud still in there.

Hey all,

I don't think I got any water in the bike's engine or anything else. The float valve might be the issue, but I don't think it would be able to give half of the gas. Or else, I could accelerate full speed from a stop and then it would cut out and sputter until it would need more gas. Also, the carb would clog up. I don't sputter and it hasn't clogged yet.

Some other thoughts, I wanted to ask about are...
(since my buddy and I are going to check the carb on Friday anyway):

-Could this be an air leak somewhere? Are there any vaccuums to check?

-I got my bike serviced at a Yamaha/Kawasaki. I'm wondering if they might have put their "stock" air filter onto my Rebel, and the ratio is off. The norm is 14 to 1. I'm not sure...

-Are there any ways to fine tune adjust the carb? We were trying to find this, but couldn't really.

-I'm guessing the on screw with a paddle on it is the idle adjustment, probably like for altitudes or something like that. Should that be at a certain setting?

Thanks,

-Chris
